Political rally set for Oct. 5

The Crenshaw Fire and Police Departments will host a political rally Saturday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. The event will raise funds for police and fire protection in the town.

Mayor Oscar Barlow said barbecue plates will be sold and cakes will be auctioned. He has invited all candidates for office in Panola and Quitman Counties to the rally. All candidates will be given an opportunity to speak to voters.

Any candidate wanting to set up a table with campaign materials may do so for a $30 contribution to the departments, Barlow said.

The rally will be one month the General Election in November. In Panola County, the race that has garnered the most attention is the one between incumbent Sheriff Dennis Darby (Independent)  and Shane Phelps (Democrat).

Also on the ballot are four candidates for District Four supervisors – Democrat Chad Weaver,  Republican Mike Woods, and Independents Darrell Manning and James Snyder.

For District Two supervisor, Democrat Earl Burdette will face Independents Keith Mothershead and Tim Holliday.

In District Three, incumbent Democrat John Thomas will face Republican Ken Williams.

For Constable, Post 2,  incumbent Democrat Raye Hawkins has a challenger in Independent Maurice Market.

In the race for Mississippi House of Representatives  District 10, Republican Brady Williams of Oxford will face Independent Josh Hawkins of Batesville.
