Apparent suicide still being investigated by sheriff’s department

Law enforcement officials received a report of a suicide on Floyd’s Island on March 16 when Deputy John Still responded and found a victim of a gunshot wound face down and covered in blood in the floor of the living room. According to the report, a family member witnessed the shooting.
Still spoke to another witness who arrived on the scene after the incident and secured the pistol. According to the report, gun residue tests were done on both witnesses. The case is under further investigation by Detective Jason Chrestman.
The Panola County Sheriff’s Department investigated 38 other incidents from March 11 to 18.
March 11, Eureka Road, Batesville,  Deputy Bill Furniss on the scene of an accident witnessed an individual run into a brick column at the entrance of a residence.
March 15, Pope-Water Valley Road, Pope, Deputy Willie Harris took a report of vandalism to a silver 1971 VW Bug.
Young Street, Courtland, Deputy Griffin responded to a disorderly child report. Resident states his granddaughter wouldn’t stop smoking cigarettes and needed to be taken to her other grandparents house due to her not minding him.
March 16, Deputy Mark Lott responded to Henderson Road for a vicious dog complaint. Two pit bulls attacked a cow and one dog was shot. Both dogs fled.
March 16, Deputy Lott investigated a report of animal cruelty on Askew Road. Complainant stated someone shot across the road hitting her dog in her backyard.
March 17, Deputy Josh Griffin responded to a family disturbance on Connie Drive where an individual was arrested after he threatened bodily harm and broke items in the home.
March 18 Sardis Lake Drive resident reported a civil matter to Deputy Britton Crawford concerning a Gold 2011 Chevy Equinox, willed to her after the death of her parents but taken across state lines by her sister.
Forrest Drive North, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Lott that someone has been trespassing on his property and harassing his daughter.
Ranchette Road, Batesville resident reported to Deputy Still that several juveniles are riding their four-wheelers on his property.
Threats/Assault
March 12, resident reported to Deputy Lott her husband threatened suicide when she refused to allow him to come back home by grabbing her pistol and pressing it to his head and then shooting a hole in the roof of her car.
March 13, Henderson Road, Batesville resident reported to Deputy Lott that her husband was threatening her and took the keys to her car leaving her and her child without a vehicle.
March 15, Merit E.R. reported assault injuries. Assault occurred on Willow Road in Sardis, March 14.
March 15, Frederick Cove, Courtland, resident reported to Deputy George Renfro that an individual has threatened bodily harm.
March 15, Belmont Road, Sardis, resident reported to Deputy Britton Crawford that she was receiving harassing text messages.
March 15, Sanders Road, Sardis, resident reported to Deputy Harris that her husband threatened her.
March 16, Black Jack Road, Sardis, resident reported to Deputy Lott that his neighbor is continuously threatening him.
March 16, Cold Springs Road resident reported to Deputy Griffin he was punched and received a death threat.
March 16, Atkins Street, Sardis, resident reported to Deputy Dean Jones that her son was receiving death threats by three individuals.
March 16, Atkins Street, Sardis, resident states her daughter was hit in the face at the basketball courts.
March 18, Sanders Road, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Furniss she has a restraining order against an individual who was contacting her and requested a report to file contempt of court charges.
Thefts
March 12, Will Stewart Road, Batesville resident reported to Deputy Darryl House that someone stole four aluminum Chevrolet rims.
March 13, Askew Road, Crenshaw Deputy Lee Martin investigated a theft where food, tools, DVDs, VCRs, and a Jack Russell dog were taken.
March 13, Fredrick Cove, Courtland resident reported to Deputy Furniss someone had stolen her blue 2002 Pontiac Sunfire.
Greenhill Circle, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Furnissthat her ex-boyfriend attempted to break-in. Deputy Furniss was called back to the scene where the complainant stated that he gained entry to the home and raped her.
March 16, Vassar Road, Pope resident reported to Deputy Griffin that a 9mm handgun was stolen from her glove compartment.
March 16, Henry Heafner Road, Batesville, resident reported to Deputy Lott her home was broken into and a 32” Vizio flat screen was taken along with food from the kitchen.
March 17, Fudgetown Road, Sardis, resident reported to Deputy Crawford a debit card, bluetooth speaker, and Remington 770 7mm-08 was missing from her home.
Accidents
Nine incidents are listed in the Panola County Motor Vehicle Accident Report, none involve injuries.
March 11, Eureka Road, one car hit a pole.
March 11, Macedonia Road, car hit a tree.
March 12, Curtis Road, two vehicles sideswiped.
March 12, Farrish Gravel Road, two vehicles collided.
March 13, Parks Place Road, one car hit a deer.
March 13, Old Panola Road, one vehicle.
March 13, Panola County Line & Renaissance Drive, two vehicles collided.
March 14, Woodruff Road, one vehicle.
March 16, one car ran off the road.
Juvenile Offense report
March 14, a 17 year old resident on Fox Run Drive got into trouble for acting unruly.
March 16, a 15 year old juvenile landed in hot water for assault at North Panola Jr. High.
