SP soccer boys hand Hernando first district loss

Noah Willis scored both goals for South Panola to secure a district win over Hernando Tuesday in a two overtime shootout, 2-2. That was Hernando’s first district loss of the season.
Steven Collins had an assist.
Hernando scored in the first half and South Panola (5-5 overall, 4-3 district) tied the match in the second half. Neither team scored in the first overtime, but both scored in the second.
South Panola won the shootout 4-3.
Cole Rotenberry and Willis were the only ones who had a shot on the goal. Rotenberry took four shots, along with Willis, Collins and A. J. Norwood who took one shot each.
Goalie Gehrig Griffin had 13 saves. Rotenberry had three point-kick saves.
Hernando Girls 5, SP 0
The South Panola girls still struggle as they fell to Hernando.
Hannah Mitchell had a shot on the goal and goalie Rebekah Garner logged 31 saves.
South Panola did score a goal against Columbus last Friday.
Mitchell did the honors.
Getting shots on goal against Columbus were Mitchell, Savannah Bryant and Emillee Sutton.
In the goalie position, Meredith Tidwell had nine saves and Garner, two.
South Panola will be at home tonight to host Tupelo (6-1 girls, 1-0; 8-1-1, 2-0 boys) in district action beginning at 5 p.m.
Tomorrow the teams will play in the Oxford Showcase. The South Panola girls will play Pontotoc at 9:30 a.m. and Byhalia at 2:50 p.m.
The South Panola boys will play Byhalia at 10:50 a.m. and North Pontotoc at 5:30 p.m.
The soccer teams will resume action after the Christmas holiday break on January 5.
