Panola family mourns Caley

The stepfather of an Auburn, Ala. girl with Panola County ties has been charged with capital murder according to Opelika-Auburn News.

Caley Presley, 5, died after being hospitalized in Birmingham where she was allegedly beaten according to Auburn Police Division Capt. Lorenza Dorsey.

She is the daughter of Lacey Corley of Courtland and Cyndi Presley-Barton of Auburn.
Prior to the capital murder charge Auburn Police first arrested George W. Barton, 34, on felony warrants charging him with first-degree domestic violence and aggravated child abuse. An affidavit indicates Barton admitted to beating the child

Caley Presley died as a result of her injuries while hospitalized in Birmingham, Dorsey said according to the aonow.com story.

Presley’s body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science Medical Examiner’s Office in Montgomery for an autopsy, according to the report.

Police were called to a residence in the 1900 block of Rosie Street in Auburn Sunday, August 6 about noon to assist paramedics who had been summoned to the scene and found the child unresponsive, suffering from an apparent head injury.

Barton, the child’s stepfather, was responsible for caring for her at the time of the injury, Auburn Police said.

Funeral services for Calie will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
