South Panola school trustees will likely finalize their intentions to borrow $4.6 million to build a new ninth-grade building during tonight’s monthly meeting.
That building is to be funded by extending a three-mill levy already on the tax rolls an additional 10 years from 2018 to 2028.
The building would relieve congestion and classroom shortages at South Panola High School.
The funding process will move forward unless a petition signed by 20 percent of the qualified electors in the district call for an election to decide whether or not to issue the notes. No petition efforts have been reported.
School officials included other areas to be addressed with bond proceeds such as building repair, building fixtures, heating and air-conditioning, buses, land purchase, recreational and athletic purposes and refinancing old debt.
Trustees meet monthly each third Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Child Development Center on College Street in Batesville.
