ND holds on to defeat Lee in delayed game

By Brad Greer
In what  took all of ten days to complete, The North Delta School finally put its District 1-AA grudge match to rest with Lee Academy  by holding on to a 27-23 victory over the Colts Monday night at Green Wave Field.

The game was a continuation of a Oct. 7 contest that was postponed due to lightening early in the fourth quarter.

Lee faced a 3rd-and-8 from the Green Wave 35 as play resumed with 11:19 remaining, after a short gain the Colts completed a 16-yard pass to the North Delta 16 but could not get any closer as a fumble and a quarterback sack by linebacker Hunter Baker forced Lee to turn the ball over on downs.

North Delta however could not do anything on its ensuing possession and was forced to punt where Will Kidder boomed a 45- yard punt that was downed at the Colt 10 with 4:50 left to play.
Lee’s drive produced two first downs but on 1st-and-10, Macen McGee intercepted a Micheal Augustilli pass on the North Delta 47. But the  Wave yet again could not capitalize on the good field position and were forced to punt. Kidder then nailed a 47- yard punt that pinned Lee on its own seven with ten seconds remaining. Three plays later, the Colts last gasp fell on deaf ears as James Ridge picked off Augustilli’s pass to seal the game.

North Delta rolled up a season-high 428 yards of total offense which included 320  on the ground. Hays Hudson had a career game with 201 rushing on 25 carries and two touchdowns. The senior signal-caller also caught a touchdown pass from Kidder in the second quarter and was 8-of-13 through the air for 66 yards.

Baker followed in the rushing category with 11 carries for 64 yards and a team-leading six tackles on defense. Bailey Sullivant accounted for 83 all-purpose yards with 37 yards rushing, 32 passing and one reception for 14 yards. Kidder chipped in with five carries for 12 yards and a rushing touchdown.

McGee led North Delta in receiving with six catches for 72 yards while John Haga Lewis added one reception for eight yards. Bailey Ross, who left the game in the second half with a knee injury, caught one pass for four yards.

Tripp Savage added five tackles for the North Delta defense. Wilson Morrow garnered four tackles while Ethan Calvert and Hudson tallied three each.
