Green Wave teams take 3 of 4 from Delta

By Brad Greer

While victories have been hard to come by so far this season for the North Delta Green Wave, Thursday night’s 39-29 home victory over long time rival Delta Academy could certainly go a long way.

North Delta (6-13) jumped out to a 12-0 lead before the Raiders could get on the board at the 1:02 mark of the first quarter. Will Hartzell, who led the Wave in scoring with 10 points, and Hunt Howell connected on a pair of three-pointers before Tylor Lee’s basket in the closing seconds of the period gave the Wave a 14-4 advantage.

The Waves extended their lead to 21-5 in the second quarter on  pair of field goals by Sam Copeland and a three-pointer by Hartzell who registered eight first half points.

Renz Delubio led Delta with nine second-half points while Tucker Shook chipped in with seven.

Copeland followed Hartzell in scoring with eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Howell added seven points and pulled down eight boards as North Delta shot 33 percent for the floor.

Renic Greenlee chipped in with six points and five assists while Jonathan Mackey and Lee both finished with four points each.

North Delta (girls)- 34, Delta-31
While the North Delta boys coasted to a victory in their contest, the Lady Waves found themselves in a barn burner after leading for three quarters.

North Delta (14-11) led 26-18 going into the fourth quarter before the Raiders rallied to out-score the hosts 13-8 behind 11 points from Emma Haynes.

Haynes’ basket cut the Waves lead to 32-29 with 2:10 remaining in the game. The score would remain that way until Erin Snider’s huge basket gave North Delta some breathing room at 34-29 with under a minute to play.

After the Raiders closed the margin to 34-31 with 29 seconds left, a turnover by North Delta with 15 seconds remaining gave Delta possession and a chance to tie the game  only to have Haynes’ shot blocked as time expired.

Hastings Neal led the way for North Delta with seven first half points. Snider and Charla Darby each added six points while Julie Morrow and Callie Blake Masterson chipped in with five. Jordan Pullen contributed with four points and Claire Gant had one point.

Jr. High
