Second date set for murder trial

By Billy Davis

Circuit Judge Smith Murphey confirmed from the bench Friday that a second murder trial for Antonio Cortez Glover is set for December 3 in Sardis.

The trial date and four felony counts against Glover were announced at a pre-trial status conference requested by Murphey.

Earlier this summer, a sequestered jury convicted Glover of killing Tommy “Burnside” Moore in 2011, choosing that conviction over capital murder and manslaughter.

The jury that is seated in December will not be sequestered, Murphey told the court.

Glover was also convicted of arson and kidnapping, and two counts of conspiracy, but the convictions were tossed out when it was learned a juror had committed perjury after lying about a drug conviction.

Glover was found not guilty on four counts, and the state is unable to retry him on those counts due to double jeopardy laws.

Glover attended the hearing last week with his attorney, John Keith Perry, while District Attorney John Champion announced he will try Glover for murder, arson and kidnapping, and conspiracy.

Glover, a purported Como drug dealer, was facing the death penalty for killing his neighbor over missing marijuana.

Moore’s body was found May 6, 2011 in a drainage ditch on Paul White Road.

An autopsy reported Moore was shot multiple times and died from his gunshot wounds. He was 32.
