Increase coming for single copy Panolian

The price of single copies of The Panolian will increase to $1 with the Friday, August 3 edition.
It is the first increase in single copies since 1995.

The price change will coincide with an increase in subscription prices as well as fewer free stories from the newspaper’s Web Site, publisher John Howell Sr. announced.

“We’ve absorbed increases in the cost of producing the newspaper and web site as long as we could. We regret that the increase has become necessary, but it is our only option if we are to continue to gather and report the volume of Panola County news that we make available each day to our print and online readers,” Howell said.

Effective August 1 in-state subscriptions for the print edition will cost $49.95 for one year; $35 for six months. A nine-month college subscription will cost $40.

“Subscribers will still have the options to receive the newspaper delivered to them for less than 50 cents per issue,” Howell said.

Discounted print edition subscriptions for senior citizens age 65 and above and military personnel will cost $44.95 annually.

All out-of-state subscriptions to the print edition will cost $64.95 for one year; $44.95 for six months.
Subscribers to the print edition can add an online subscription for $10.

Subscriptions to the online edition only cost $27 annually; $24 for a nine-month college subscription; $10 for three months and $4 for one month. Mississippi subscribers, who had formerly been barred from online only subscriptions, will now have have the option to purchase the online subscription without being required to also subscribe to the print edition, the publisher said.

However, online viewers who have become accustomed to a generous posting of free stories from the current newspaper and from archives will now encounter a paywall that requires a subscription, Howell said.

The online subscription includes the exact replica of the print edition, delivered to subscribers’ e-mails. “Flip the pages, scan the headlines and read the stories,” Howell said. “No matter where you are, The Panolian is right there with you, keeping you connected to what’s happening in Panola County.

All price changes become effective August 1. Any current print, online or combination subscriber can renew at the old rate before July 31 at 5 p.m. (See page A12 for details.)

“Our focus remains the same. We want to tell the story of Panola County in print and online,” the publisher said. “We want to produce a newspaper and a web site that you won’t want to miss!
