Three defendants referred to grand jury in city court

Three cases were referred to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.

Judge Bill McKenzie explained the felony cases will be heard in a higher court.

Terrell Harris, 404 Womack, Lambert, was referred to the grand jury for felony domestic violence.

Jeremy T. Jackson, Timberridge 30, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony embezzlement from Pride’s.

Stephanie Watson, 201 Liebeman, Sledge, was referred to the grand jury for forgery.

During Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday two new police officers, Barry Gregg and Jason Estes, were sworn into the Batesville Police Department by Judge Bill McKenzie.

Kemp Blackmon, 226 Noble St., Batesville, entered guilty pleas to leaving the scene of an accident with injury, no proof of insurance and no driver’s license.

He was fined $1,088.

Demetrius Warren, 8447 S  Colfax, Chicago, paid his fines of $420 in full prior to court for possession of marijuana.

Justin Woodard, 2137 Brewer, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to possession of marijuana. A trial was set for July 11.

Markeevan Ford, 2074- C Morrow Rd., Courtland, entered a not guilty plea to possession of marijuana and public drunk. A trial was set for July 18.

Marvin Brownlee, 107 Vance St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk and disorderly conduct – failure to comply.

“Marvin, I thought you were going to get better,” McKenzie stated.

“I am sir, I am going to rehab,” Brownlee replied.

“How many times have you told me that?” the judge asked.

“What was going on?”

“They threw my whiskey across the road and car ran over it, I was going home.” Brownlee replied.

“Who threw your whiskey?” asked McKenzie.

Marvin pointed at Danny Corley, 394 Greenbriar Courtland, who was sitting on the bench cuffed waiting for his trial.

The judge called Danny Corley up to the stand.

He was also charged with public drunk.

Both Brownlee and Corley were sentenced to 10 days in jail. Corley has a hold from the MDOC and cannot be released.

Pamela Deason, 130 Johnson, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk and was fined $204.

Kristy Smith, 107 MLK No. 8, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct – failure to comply. She was fined $624.

Wanda Holman, 1380 Ponderosa, Lambert, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting several items from Wal-Mart. She was fined $1,124.

Demond Jackson, 2828 OB McClinton, Senatobia, entered a not guilty plea to willful trespassing.

“I was in St. Louis, I have pictures on my phone to prove it,” Jackson contested.

The judge told Jackson to bring his proof for the June 13 trial.

Mary Burnham, 118 Church, Batesville, entered the city’s work release program for 24 days in lieu of paying $1,324 for domestic violence – simple, resisting arrest and abusing members of police.

Stanley Lester, 1056 Henderson, Batesville, entered the city’s work program in lieu of paying $537 for old fines that have been due since January 2010. He had a malicious mischief charge dismissed after the affiant, Erica Barnes, failed to appear to prosecute.

Ricky Keen, 201 Birch, Batesville, paid his old fines of $562 in full prior to court that have been due since July 2010 and had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant, Janice Crossland failed to appear to prosecute.

During a case set for trial the judge found Tabitha Doering not guilty of simple assault against Hollie Doering.

LaJarva Echols, 703 Greenhill, Sardis, had a case for simple assault continued.

Keyondrick Watters, 396 Tubbs, Batesville, had a case for domestic violence-simple assault dismissed.

Lawrence Hoskins, 640 Hwy. 51 South, Batesville, was fined $594 for no proof of insurance.

Rachel D. Mister, 101 Flowers Rd., Pope, was fined $594 for no proof of insurance.

Amy L. Rockbury, 791 Enid Dam Rd., Pope, was fined $370 for driving while license suspended.

Phillip H. Remien, 9580 Hwy. 51, Oakland, was fined $594 for no proof of insurance.
