A simple ball player makes big impact
By Brad Greer
When asked to best describe herself in one short term, Bradi Beard just simply replied, “I’m just a ball player, that is all I do.”
That statement could not be further from the truth for the daughter of Bart and Pam Beard.
The North Delta senior has been a fixture of Green Wave athletics for the past four years as a standout on both the basketball and softball squads.
Beard recently signed a basketball scholarship to Blue Mountain College near New Albany where she plans on majoring in physical therapy.
When not hitting an open jump shot on the basketball court or snagging a line drive from her shortstop position, Beard can be seen on Friday nights’ on the sideline cheering for the North Delta football team.
But when it comes down to it, playing ball is her favorite past time.
“It is real tough to balance playing basketball and softball plus school. I have really got to squeeze everything in, but I love it. I don’t ever want to slow down,” said Beard, who has lettered three years in basketball and four in softball.
“Bradi is the heart and soul of the basketball team and one of the leaders on the softball team. She is a really hard worker and (it is) just hard to define what she has meant to both programs and to this school,” said North Delta girls basketball coach Phil Douglas.
Beard went on to say she will miss her time at the North Delta School but it will be her friends and teachers she will miss the most.
