By Brad Greer

In their  two previous meetings  on the softball diamond this season, North Delta and Magnolia Heights each came away with 2-0 victories.

Mary Alex Sandridge, who had blanked North Delta 2-0 in the Kirk tournament earlier in the season, silenced the Lady Wave bats by scattering five hits over seven innings.

Sandridge helped her own cause at the plate with a triple and two singles while Shannon Massey added a pair of singles. Abi Gibson registered a double and single in the winning effort.

Bradi Beard, Maribeth Johns, Erin Snider, Anna Lloyd and Hannah Waldrip all singled for North Delta, who fell to 13-6 on the season. Grayson Sims took the pitching loss.

Sandridge and Leila Savage singled to lead off the fourth for Magnolia Heights. After Ford reached on a error to load the bases with no outs, Massey slapped a single into left to score Sandridge.

Savage then scored on a Madeline Ross sacrifice fly to center. Ford advanced to third on the play then came home when catcher Laci Dubravec overthrew third base. Massey later scored on another North Delta error to push the lead to 4-0.

The Chiefs tacked on two more runs in the fifth on three singles and an error. North Delta put runners on the corners with no outs in the seventh but came away empty-handed as Katherine Rich popped into a double-play and Waldrip struck out to end the game.

North Delta hosted Bayou yesterday in non-district action and will play in the Jackson Prep tournament this weekend.
