Head Coach Lance Pogue said the team had some good care over from the spring.

“Last week everybody was still on vacation from Memorial Day and now we’ve got that first week behind us,” said Pogue. “I’m really excited about it and the kids all have a great attitude. I’m excited about their work ethics. It’s going to be hot this summer but it already is. We have a day game in August so we have to get out and work in it and I know these kids are willing to do that.”

The team works out in the weight room starting at 7:30 a.m. and then goes outside for workouts. They run up and down the bleachers and then get on the field.

The team hosted a 7-on-7 camp with Lafayette, Grenada and Bruce on Mondays starting at 10 a.m.

“We have so many young players, like brand new receivers and brand new defensive backs, that really never played before so we’ll get a lot of work in this summer. We’re going to try to do this every Monday with those three teams. It’ll give us an opportunity to continue to get better.”

Some players are attending camps on their own at different colleges. This past weekend Issac Gross, Temario Strong and Deon Nix all attended the Ole Miss elite camp.

“They all did well and all three are top prospects especially Gross and Strong going into their senior year and Nix is putting himself on the map. There is no question they’re some of the top guys in the state.

“Mississippi State has a camp coming up and Ole Miss is going to have some more and I’m sure they’re going to be some more guys attending those camps plus more throughout the summer.”

The first day of fall practice for the Tigers will be August 1.
