The Patton Lane 13-14-year-old baseball team ran into a Grenada Recreation locomotive Monday afternoon at home.

This was the first time the teams had met and was an eye-opener. Grenada took the doubleheader 15-4 and 7-3.

During the first game, the sun was beat down hard on the players, but afternoon storms moved through and the second game was called after the second inning due to lightning.

The visiting Grenada team scored six runs in the top of the first.

Batesville (6-4) could only answer with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Leadoff hitter Houston Boothe doubled to start the inning. He advanced to third on a Demetrius Market single and scored on a passed ball.

Cameron Brown singled and advanced Market to second. Market got to third before stealing home, both on passed balls.

Batesville scored again in the bottom of the fourth.

On a Grenada pitcher throwing error, Stevon Sanford was safe at first and proceeded to second. Greg Hayes singled to put runners on first and second. Desmond Lester snapped a two out triple to right center and driving home Sanford and Hayes.

A strikeout ended the inning with Lester still on third.

In the second game, the score was tied at three after the first inning.

Cameron Brown struck out but reached first on a dropped third strike and stole second on a passed ball. Tevis Flowers walked to get on base. Deion Hooks singled and drove home Brown and Flowers to make the score 3-2. Sanford singled to drive home Hooks tying the game.

Grenada scored four more runs in the second inning thanks to five errors on the Batesville team. Batesville was held scoreless in the second as the game was called due to lightning.

Brown was the starting pitcher for the first game and was relieved by Flowers in the fourth inning. Flowers pitched the two innings in the second game.
