Republican candidates Angela McGlowan, Alan Nunnelee and Henry Ross are seeking the chance to face Childers in the November 2 General Election.

Nunnelee, a state senator from Tupelo, is seen as the frontrunner.

Childers, a former chancery clerk, is from Prentiss County.

The 1st District seat was formerly held by Republican Roger Wicker. He vacated the seat when named U.S. senator by Gov. Haley Barbour.

Childers’ win in 2008, in a hotly contested race, put the GOP seat in Democrat hands.

The November ballot will also include third-party and independent candidates, including Wally Pang of Batesville.
