Lawrence Diggs
BATESVILLE– Lawrence Diggs, 45, died Monday, July 6 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Services will be Monday, July 13 at Shioh M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Bishop E.M. Fondren will officiate.
Diggs, born January 31, 1964, to James Edward and Fannie Coleman Diggs, was a tech for Harrah’s Casino and a member of Deliverance Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1-6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Survivors along with his parents include two sons, Ar’Ricus Diggs and Larenzo Stokes, both of Como; one daughter, Tierra Diggs of Como; eight sisters, Renita Diggs, Shirley Kuykendall, Doris Diggs and Latanya Norwood, all of Batesville; Muriel Diggs and Wanda Kay Twilley, both of Crowder; and Beverly Diggs and Rosie Diggs, both of Chicago, Ill., and five brothers, Roy Diggs, of Batesville, James Diggs Jr., of Crowder, Jimmy Diggs of Tunica, Johnny Diggs of Muskegon, Mich., and Tommy Diggs of Iowa.
Ruth Elizabeth Nelson Gregory
COURTLAND– Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Nelson Gregory, 83, widower of Mr. Otis Lee Gregory died Monday, July 6, 2009 at her residence in Courtland.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 8 at Dickins Chapel in Batesville with Bro. Billy Shackleford officiating. Interment followed at Goshen United Methodist Church Cemetery in Oakland. Dickins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
A volunteer and cafe worker, Nelson was born in 1926 to the late William “Will” James Nelson and Eunice Elizabeth Barton Nelson.
She is survived by: three brothers, Billy Ray Nelson of Thaxton, Robert James “Bobby” Nelson of Southaven and Tommy Gene Nelson of Olive Branch; two sisters, Nora Lynn Coleman of Bridgetown and Erma Faye Herndon of Southaven.

Charles David Hubbard
VICTORIA, TEX.– Charles David Hubbard 71, of Victoria, Texas, formerly of Batesville, died June 29, 2009 at his home .
He was born in Pope in 1938 to the late Dalton and Fannie Karr Hubbard and is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Harley Hubbard of Batesville.
Funeral services were July 2 at Grace Funeral Home in Victoria with burial at Mission Valley Cemetery.
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Hubbard; five daughters, Terri Tramel, Sherri Helms, Letitia Hubbard, Dawn Maloney and Eve Symagalski; two sons, Michael Hubbard and Jason Hubbard; two sisters, Pearl Hill, Mary Ann Carpenter and Ella Guest, two brothers, Rodney Hubbard of Texas and Jerry Hubbard of Vicksburg. Hubbard is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
MEMPHIS– LaSharion King, 41, died Friday, July 3 at her home.
Services will be held Saturday, July 11 at Coleman Chapel AME Zion Church at 2 p.m.
Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
King, born July 11, 1967 to Christine Williams Alexander and Wesley King was a member of Coleman Chapel AME Zion Church and a security guard.
Survivors along with her parents include one daughter, Lestonia King of Memphis; one son, Cheron King of Montevallo, Ala.; her grandmother Ellen McCorkle of Sumner; eight sisters, Joan Key, Betty Kinnard, Denise King, Kimberly Hardin, Lavern Hardin, Sharon Winfield and Evette Rena Hardin, all of Memphis; and Charlotte King of Montevallo, Ala.; and two brothers, Demarco Alexander and Antoine Tony Hardin, both of Memphis.
Jimmy Russell
Jimmy Russell, 58, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009 at his residence in Water Valley. He was born in Clarksdale to the late Marlin, Sr. and Nellie Mooneyham Russell. He worked setup at Borg Warner in Water Valley and retired after 31 years of service. He also had served in the United Sates Army. A graveside service was held in Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley on Wednesday with Rev. Larry Kilgore presiding.
Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Stacey C. Russell of Water Valley; two sons, Michael Kevin Russell of Batesville and Timothy Scott Russell of Water Valley; three step-daughters, Lacey Harris, Brittney Harris, and Terri Lynn Harris, all of Water Valley; four grandchildren; five sisters, Juanita Parks of Batesville, Brenda Brock of Batesville, Glenda Clark of Batesville, Ruby Robertson of Lambert and Shirley Stewart of Water Valley; three brothers, Marlin Russell Jr. of Oakland, Larry Russell of Marks and James Russell of Batesville.
Minnie Pearl Wright
Senatobia—Minnie Pearl Wright, formerly of Sardis, 94, died July 4, 2009 at Senatobia Convalescent Home.
Funeral services were held graveside at Memphis Memory Gardens Tuesday, July 7.
The widow of Franklin P. Wright, she was a housewife and member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Southaven. She was born in Winston County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Thomas Eskridge and Blossie Pearl Croft Eskridge.
She is survived by: two daughters, Claudia W. Lee or Florida and Frances W. Pegram of Como; a sister, Mrs. Lois Gatlin of Starkville; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
