Students at North Delta School will return to class Thursday after storm-triggered electrical outages and other damage canceled Wednesday classes.

School staff members, volunteers and employees of Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association (TVEPA) worked all day Wednesday to make the campus student-ready after storm winds which wrought havoc through much of south Panola County struck the school, tearing the roof away from a pod of portable classrooms and blasting the debris against nearby electrical transformers, Headmaster John Howell Jr. said.

A crane from Custom Sign Company assisted TVEPA workmen in replacing the transformers to restore the school’s electricity. Other volunteers repaired roof damage to the school’s gym, he added.

“I always get a new level of respect for those guys when they go through something like this,” Howell said, referring to the TVEPA employees called out all over their service area to restore power after Wednesday morning’s intense storm.
