Beatrice Barmer Britt
COMO- Beatrice Barmer Britt, 77, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Britt, born Nov. 11, 1931, in Tate, to the late Homer L. and Gertie Maples Barmer, worked at Sardis Luggage Company and was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Reese Britt.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Ann Britt Hansgen and her husband, Mark of Bartlett, Tenn., Cathy S. Luther and her husband Larry of Como and Frances Barmer of Senatbia; three sons, James Edward Bray and his wife Karen of Byhalia, Paul E. Britt and his wife Beverly of Sardis and Michael R. Britt of Como; three sisters, Maggie Barmer Stuckey and Joyce Barmer Brown, both of Sardis and Anna Barmer Russell of Batesville; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Fred Milton Hadorn
BATESVILLE- Fred Milton Hadorn, 80, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at his residence.
Services were Monday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Burial was in Union Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Hadorn, born Sept. 7, 1928, to the late Edward Fred Hadorn and Abbie Leona Long Hadorn, was a retired truck driver for Brassells John Deere.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Robbie Lee Geeslin Hadorn.
Survivors include: five daughters, Carol Ware of Grenada, Nancy Roper, Betty McElhaney, and Brenda Brewer, all of Batesville and Debbie Kling of Monticello, Ark.; one son, Steve Milton Hadorn of Batesville; two sisters, Emma Hadorn, Gloria Davis and Grace Whitley, all of Batesville; three brothers, James Hadorn of Batesville, David “Sonny” Hadorn of Fulton and Jessie Hadorn of Abbeville; 21 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
Perry Harris
MEMPHIS- Perry Harris, 46, formerly of Sardis, died Sunday, March 15, 2009.
Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harmonia M.B. Church. Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Harmonia Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
Harris, born to Rufus Harris of Chicago and Patsy Harris of Crenshaw, was a member of Blackhill M.B. Church in Sardis and an auto mechanic.
Survivors along with his parents include: two daughters, Prescella Presley and May Linda Presley, both of Como; one son, Perry Presley of Como; four sisters, Audra Jean Harris of Batesville, Ruthie Mae Burnette and Ada Johnson, both of Chicago and Sadie Harris of Memphis; three brothers, David House, Terry Harris and Otis Harris, all of Memphis and four grandchildren.
Elvator Hudson
CHICAGO- Elvator Hudson, 58, formerly of Batesville, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at her residence.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Concord M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Hudson, born July 15, 1950, to the late Hardin Hudson and the late Mary L. Henderson Hudson was a security supervisor and a member of Covenant M.B. Church in Chicago.
Survivors include: one daughter, Shelia Hudson of Chicago; two sons, Melvin Hudson and Marshall Hudson, both of Chicago; two sisters, Stell Vann of Inglewood, Calif. and Rose Pride of Monee, Ill.; five brothers, Robert Hudson, Clifton Hudson and Bob Hudson, all of Batesville, M.C. Hudson of Seattle and Zeno Hudson of Chicago and 11 grandchildren.
Daisy Mae Leverson
COMO- Daisy Mae Leverson, 54, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services were Saturday at Paradise M.B. Church in Senatobia. Burial was in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include: her parents, J.H. and Virginia Heffner of Sardis; two daughters, Stephanie Burton and Iesha Sykes, both of Sardis; 12 sisters, Rosemary Clark, Caroline Ward, Barbara Heffner, Sandra Leverson and Wanika Hightower, all of Sardis, Brenda Edwards, Sherry Heffner and Sherill Heffner, all of Como, Linda Draper and Virginia Pegues, both of Batesville, Annie Bobo and Faye Collins, both of Senatobia; 10 brothers, David Heffner of Batesville, Bobby Heffner, Henry Lee Leverson, Willie Charles Leverson, Nathan Thomas and Rodrigue Thomas, all of Sardis, Dewayne Heffner of Drew, David Jackson and J.D. Jackson of Senatobia and four grandchildren.
John Lewallen
CRENSHAW- John Lewallen, 38, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services were Wednesday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include: his parents, Johnny and Vera Lewallen of Crenshaw and his grandmother, Joyce Curtis of Vicksburg.
Jewell Inez Newman Moody
POPE- Jewell Inez Newman Moody, 84, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at her residence.
Services were Saturday at Drew Baptist Church. Burial was in Drew Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Moody, born May 27, 1924, to the late Charlie Newman and Myrtle Hughes Newman, was a retired correction officer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erastus Moody.
Survivors include: one daughter, Wynoka Tuttle of Batesville; two sons, E.R. Moody Jr. of Drew and Ricky Moody of Pope; one sister, Ruby Holcolmb of Saltillo; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchilren.
Memorials may be made to St. Children’s Research Hospital.
Lillian Katherine Robertson
BATESVILLE- Lillian Katherine Robertson, 87, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Robertson, born April 29, 1921, in Olive Branch, to the late Willie and Odie Jenkins Tindall, was a homemaker and a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church in Batesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer K. Robertson.
Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Cox of Batesville; five sons, Charles Tindall, Danny Robertson, Ray Robertson, Jimmy Robertson and Ronnie Robertson, all of Batesville; two sisters, Ollie Mae Warnock of Florence and Elsie Ivy of Clarksdale; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Roma Jean Russell Sutton
POPE- Roma Jean Russell Sutton, 71, died Monday, 71, died Monday, March 16, 2009, from injuries obtained in an automobile accident in Pope.
Graveside services were Thursday at Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Charles Hardy Sr. officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Sutton, born July 18, 1937, to the late Edgar Ernest and Effie Buchanan Russell, was a homemaker and a member of Pope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Sutton.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lisa Sutton Cox of Chandler, Texas and Leigh Ann Sutton Benson of Pope; one sister, Ethel Russell French of Memphis; four brothers, Harry Russell, Gladden Russell and Billy Russell, all of Batesville and Joe Mac Russell of Biloxi; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Jack Gillentine
SARDIS- Jack Gillentine, 33, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Sardis.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home in Senatobia. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Ray Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
Gillentine, born May 21, 1975, in Memphis, to Robert Walter and Betty Joyce Gillentine of Sardis, was a foreman at Gillentine Construction Company where he worked for 11 years. He was a graduate of Magnolia Heights, an Eagle Scout and a member of Lifepoint Church in Senatobia. He was baptized as a child at the First Baptist Church in Sardis where he was also an active member of the youth group.
He was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Sardis and a former assistant captain for the Union Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Doris Dempsey.
Survivors along with his parents include: two sisters, Leslie Rice and her husband, Jeff of New London, Penn. and Amy Gillentine of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Billy Gillentine and his wife, Angie of Sardis; his grandparents, Robert Walter and Lorraine Gillentine of Arlington, Tenn.; his step-grandfather, Hugh Green; three nephews, William and Matt Gillentine and Harry Rice; five nieces, Catherine Dempsey, Taylor and Cameron Clarkson, Rebecca Gillentine and Sally Rice.
