Ora Estelle Jones

BATESVILLE– Ora Estelle Jones, 83, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Hill officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Jones, born April 22, 1925,   in Water Valley, to the late Jim and Alida Potts Prestage, was a homemaker and a member of Goodwill Church of God. She was retired from Garan Industries of Lambert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Edward Jones, three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Phillips and her husband, Jim of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sons, Vernon Jones and his wife, Sandra of Oxford, Tony Jones and his wife, Cindy of Batesville and Glenn Jones of Marks; one sister, Elsie Pettit of Fresno, Calif; one brother, Charles Prestage of Senatobia; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Donald Gordon Newsom Sr.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn.- Donald Gordon Newsom Sr., 67, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was a member of Blackjack Baptist Church.

Services were Saturday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Larry Eason officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home had charge.

Newsom, born to the late William Henry and Louise Ogden Newsom, was a supervisor for Sonoco Products Company, retiring after 33 years of service. He was employed at Great Neck Tools in inventory control. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Murley Newsom of Collierville; four daughters, Teresa Marsh of Collierville, Janet Lynn of Colorado Springs, Kay Stubbs and Renee Stuart Carlin, both of Germantown; two sons, Donald G. Newsom Jr. of Dyersburg, Tenn. and Paul Creswell of Collierville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Joyce Wiltshire Reaves

CLARKSDALE- Joyce Wiltshire Reaves, 62, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Monday at National Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Rev. Tim Ellis and Rev. Bob Weldon officiated. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. National Funeral Home had charge.

Reaves, born Jan. 25, 1946, to Flossie Bain Wiltshire and Charles Victor Wiltshire Jr., was a school teacher at Bethany Baptist Academy in Courtland. She taught K – 5.

She was preceded in death by one son, George Lee Reaves III.

Survivors along with her parents include: her husband, George L. Reaves Jr. of Clarksdale; one daughter, Elizabeth Wiltshire Pitts of Clarksdale; two brothers, Bobby Wilthshire Sr. of Marion, Ark. and Morris Wiltshire Sr. of Walls and two grandchildren, Landon and Nicole Fullilove, both of Batesville.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Bethany Baptist Academy in Courtland.

Otis Sanders

SARDIS– Otis Sanders, 60, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at his residence.

Services were Sunday at Walton Chapel C.M.E. Church. Rev. David Gulledge officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Sanders, born Nov. 23, 1948, in Batesville, to the late George Wilson Sanders and the late Azele Jones Sanders, was a member of Harmonia M.B. Church in Sardis. He was a laborer.

Survivors include: his wife, Robbie Sanders of Sardis; three daughters, Sharon D. Salter and Candyce Sanders, both of Memphis and Toya Sanders of Sardis; two sons, Otis Donell Sanders and Travis S. Sanders, both of Sardis; five sisters, Diane Sanders of Sardis, Vernita Sanders and Georgia Mae Morgan, both of Memphis, Queen Ester Davis of St. Louis and Celestine Payne of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Jimmy Sanders and Blanchie Sanders, both of Memphis and Leroy Sanders of Flint, Mich. and seven grandchildren.

 

Bobby James Williford

POPE– Bobby James Williford, 64, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Williford, born Dec. 25, 1944, to Lillie Brunell Bolton Williford of Pope and the late Howard James Williford, was a construction worker.

Survivors along with his mother include: one son, Jimmy Williford of Batesville; two daughters, Tiffany Lanham and Megan Williford, both of Kentucky and five grandchildren.
