NP Ladies handle Lewisburg

The North Panola Lady Cougars are 1-1 in the district after routing Lewisburg 61-38 Friday night. The Lady Cougars lost to Senatobia Tuesday, 80-56.

Brittany Patton was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points, followed by Catonya Newsom and Ariel Mottley with 11 each.

The Lady Patriots led 4-2 in the middle of the first quarter until the Lady Cougars turned up the heat and took a 15-4 lead into the second quarter. At the half, the Lady Cougars led 27-13.

The Lady Cougar defense was led by Jalisa Lyons on rebounding and steals as she hustled beneath the Lady Patriots basket to bring down the rebounds.

 The Lady Cougars are 5-4 overall.

The Cougars fell to 0-2 in the district after a 61-43 pounding at the hands of Lewisburg.

The Cougars had eight players scoring, but none were able to score in double figures.

North Panola led 15-14 at the half but behind the rebounding and shooting of Nick Fike, the Patriots were able to outscore the Cougars 21-8 in the second quarter to lead 35-23 at the half. Fike was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points.

The Cougar teams will be on the road heading into the Christmas holiday break. Tonight they will play a district matchup in Holly Springs. Friday, they will be in Byhalia for district games. Games tip off at 6 p.m. with the varsity ladies game.
