Mary Jo Birdsong

OAKLAND– Mary Jo Birdsong, 83, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at her son’s residence in Bull Shoals, Ark..

Graveside services are today at 10 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemtery in Water Valley. Visitation is today 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Seven Oaks Funeral Home has charge.

Birdsong, born June 16, 1925, in Hopeville, Ala. was an accounts payable clerk and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George Birdsong and two sons, Johnny Ray Birdsong and George Claude “Rick” Birdsong.

Survivors include: one son, Marvin Birdsong of Bull Shoals, Ark.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Willie Eva Wallace Morris

COURTLAND– Willie Eva Wallace Morris, 81, died Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salem M.B. Church in Courtland. Pastor Lafayette Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Salem M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Morris, born Aug. 11, 1927, in Courtland, to Lula Ford Wallace of Courtland and the late Thomas Jefferson Wallace, was a member of Salem M.B. Church and a retired nurse.

Survivors along with her mother include: her husband, Fulton Morris of Courtland; two daughters, Yolanda Varisce of Courtland and Bernadette Perkins of Chicago; four sisters, Margaret Cooke and Virginia Mack, both of Memphis, Minnie Adams of Markham, Ill. and Alice Wallace of Joliet, Ill.; four brothers, Calvin Wallace of Courtland, Woodrow Wallace of Chicago, Tommy Wallace of St. Louis and John Wallace of Kansas City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
