Grantham’s Martial Arts Academy (Batesville Karate Club) along with Quitman County Martial Arts Academy traveled to Greenwood for the first tournament of the Southern Martial Arts Fall Series. Local karate teams bring back honors

Grantham’s Martial Arts Academy (Batesville Karate Club) along with Quitman County Martial Arts Academy traveled to Greenwood for the first tournament of the Southern Martial Arts Fall Series.

There were approximately 250 participatnts competing in forms, sparring and weapons divisions. Winners from the Batesville Karate Club were: Cody Davis, who won 3rd place in forms and 3rd in weapons; Hunter Davis who won 2nd in sparring and Kenny Roberson who won 3rd place in forms and second place in sparring.

Winners from Quitman County Martial were:  Russell Furr Jr. won 3rd in forms and 1st in sparring;  Velma Webb, 2nd in forms and 1st in sparring; Jowon Allen, 3rd in forms and 1st in sparring;  Kalvin Flowers Jr., 2nd in forms and 2nd in sparring.

The City of Batesville Parks and Recreation Commission announces registration for martial arts classes.  Grantham’s Martial Arts Academy, Inc. will instruct the classes which will be held at the gym located directly behind the district offices of the South Panola School District.

Open registration will be Tuesday and Thursday nights, September 9th and 11th at 6:00 p.m.  At registration cost and times of classes will be discussed.

The Club is affiliated professionally with Unified TaeKwon Do International and Southern Martial Arts Championships.

The style taught is TaeKwon Do.  The chief instructor is Master William Allen Grantham, 6th degree black belt, and assistant instructor id Dawayne Lloyd, 3rd degree black belt.
