Former Tigers excel on collegiate field

Southern Mississippi

Former South Panola standout Terrance Pope reportedly did an outstanding job for the Golden Eagles Saturday, according to attorney Helen Kelly, who just so happens to be an avid fan.

Pope is a true freshman and played in the 51-21 romp of Louisiana-Lafayette season opener. He notched two total tackles, one solo; one tackle for two loss yards and one fumble recovery.

The Golden Eagles will have a fight on their hands with the Auburn Tigers Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Jackson State

Batesville’s Rodney Gray caught a 32-yard touchdown pass to put the Tigers on the board against Hampton Sunday afternoon. Alas, it was not enough as Jackson State lost 17-13.

He finished the day with two passes for a total 57 yards.

The Tigers now turn their attention to Stillman College in the inaugural W.C. Gordon Classic in their 2008 home opener Saturday at 4 p.m.
