Eileen Lewis Hicks

SARDIS- Eileen Lewis Hicks, 92, died May 12 at Sardis Community Nursing Home in Sardis. She was the widow of Earl “Bud” Hicks and was retired from Sears where she had worked in the business office.

Mrs. Hicks was buried in Denver, Colo.

Born in Denver on June 11, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Lewis.

She is survived by her sons Patrick H. Hicks of Senatobia, James L. Hicks of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Timothy W. Hicks of Chula Vista, Calif.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wells Funeral Home had charge of local arrangements.

Nina Catherine “Teny” Burns Hyland

POPE- Nina Catherine “Teny” Burns Hyland, 82, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Jay Anderson officiated. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Hyland, born Dec. 11, 1925, in Texas, to the late Arthur Clarence and Lona D. Davis Burns, was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Hyland; two sisters, Uvie Ensor and Nannie Snider; five brothers, Willie Burns, Fred Burns, Dale Burns, Windell Burns and Hayward Burns and two grandchildren, Rebecca Copeland Watts and Timothy Copeland.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sandra Hyland Copeland and husband, Charles Copeland of Pope; two grandchildren, Tommy Copeland of Hernando and Michelle Copeland Capwell of Pope; five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be given to: Liberty Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 5033 Pope Water Valley Rd., Pope, Miss. 38658.

Cindy Cook Roberson

SLEDGE–Cindy Cook Roberson, 49, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roy Bailey officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Roberson, born Feb. 10, 1959, in Senatobia to Rosemary Barlow Cook of Sledge and the late Thomas J. Cook, was a homemaker.

Survivors along with her mother include: one daughter, Amanda Roberson Ruth of Senatobia; one son, Barry Roberson Jr. of Potts Camp; two sisters, Faye Cook Cummins of Askew and Glenda Cook of Sledge and five grandchildren.


Hazel Shields

LAMBERT-Mrs. Hazel Stilwell Shields, 76, died May 12 at her residence. She was the widow of Lody Shields.

Funeral services were held May 15 at Dickins Funeral Home with burial in Forrest Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Shields was born September 20, 1932 to the late Elisha and Clara Moore Stilwell.

She had worked at Panola Mills in Batesville.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Bonner of Water Valley and her brother, James “Milton” Stilwell of Lambert. She is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
