Weekend graduation rites planned for Panola students

Today 617 Northwest Mississippi Community College graduates will receive their diplomas in ceremonies to take place at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Howard Coliseum.

At the 10 a.m. ceremony students will receive career certificates and associate of applied science degrees. At the 3 p.m. ceremony students will receive associate of arts degrees.

Graduates at both ceremonies will hear a welcome by Northwest President Dr. Gary Lee Spears and an address by Northwest Community College Alumni and Mississippi Supreme Court Associate Justice Ann Hannaford of Senatobia. The Northwest Symphonic Band, under the direction of John Ungurait, will perform the Processional and Recessional and Alma Mater. They will also perform “America the Beautiful” with the Northwest Singers, under the direction of Susanne VanDyke of Batesville.

South Panola High School will hold graduation ceremonies on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. in the Tad Smith Coliseum on the campus of the University of Mississippi. The Historian is Annah Bailey, Salutatorian is Kathryn Sturdivant and Valedictorian is Nicole Reineman.

North Panola High School will hold graduation ceremonies on Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m. The ceremonies will take place in the Howard Coliseum at Northwest Mississippi Community College. The Historian is Ebony Bowens, Salutatorian is Malakia Irby and Valedictorian is Brittany Taylor.

North Delta School held their graduation ceremonies last Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the North Delta gymnasium. Twenty-one seniors were given their diplomas and a diploma was presented to the Johnson family in honor of Michael Johnson, a senior who died in an automobile accident earlier this year. Speakers were headmaster John Howell, Historian Abbey Burnett, Salutatorian John Terry Moore and Valedictorian Kenlea Blann.
