ND struggles with Desoto teams

The North Delta teams traveled to Desoto, Ark. for district games Monday night and walked away with two wins of four games.

The North Delta Jr. High Lady Green Wave defeated Desoto 27-10. The Lady Green Wave held them scoreless in the first quarter while scoring 10 points. North Delta led 14-4 at halftime.

Desoto still struggled in the third quarter scoring only two points, while North Delta racked up nine to take a 23-6 lead into the final quarter.

Scoring for the Lady Wave were Hanna Greenlee, 13 points, 10 rebounds; Katelyn Still, 8 points, ; and Laci Dubravec, 6 points.

Jr. High Green Wave

The Jr. Varsity Green Wave won their contest in a squeaker, 34-33, to remain undefeated in overall play.

Bryan “B” Nickle led the Jr. Varsity Green Wave with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Also putting up numbers were Tres Brasell, 6 points, 8 rebounds; Jim Tom Copeland, 6 points; 10 rebounds; Corbin Baker, 3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals; Michael Magee, 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals; Matthew Barefoot, 2 assists, 2 rebounds; and Carson Bailey, 3 rebounds.

Varsity Lady Green Wave

The Lady Green Wave lost to Desoto 48-38. The young Lady Green Wave team finds themselves struggling, but saw improvement over the last time they faced this team December 3.

Desoto out scored North Delta 25-14 in the first quarter, but was scoreless in the second quarter. North Delta scored two points to go into halftime down 25-16.

The Lady Green Wave closed the gap in the second half, but was not able to overcome the first half deficit. Desoto won the third quarter with a 15-9 score, but the Lady Wave out scored them in the fourth quarter 13-8.

Sara Waldrip scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for another double-double for the Lady Green Wave. Bradi Beard, Hanna Greenlee, Madison Greenlee and Lauren Kimzey, all scored four points. Laci Dubravec and Linsey Hebert each scored three points. Samantha Massoth chipped in two points and pulled down five rebounds.

Varsity Green Wave

The Green Wave varsity boys tried to catch up, but Desoto proved too tough. Desoto walked away with a 48-45 district victory.

A 13-7 first quarter lead was able to sustain Desoto throughout the game as the Green Wave ate away at the lead in each subsequent quarter, but they could never close the gap all the way.

At the half, Desoto led 25-18. At the end of the third quarter, Desoto had a 34-28 lead.

Leading scorers for the Green Wave were Michael Johnson, 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and Taylor Herron, 10 points, 3 rebounds. Also scoring for the Green Wave were Geri Lamm, 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals; John Terry Moore, 7 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals; Bateman Greenlee, 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals; and Ryan King and Keith Crumpler, 2 rebounds each.

The North Delta teams will host Marvell in district action this evening beginning at 3 p.m. with the seventh grade girls. Monday, the teams will play district games at Tunica beginning at 4 p.m.

North Delta returns home Thursday for non-district action against Winona Christian beginning at 4 p.m. Next Friday, they host Delta Academy at home in district action beginning at 3 p.m.
