Band members attend various events this summer

Some South Panola band members have been busy this summer traveling with various honors bands and camps.

Drum Major Chris Presley participated in the Mississippi All-State Lions Band. The Lions band competed in Chicago in the International Lions Convention Parade.

The Mississippi band has won five consecutive times and a total of 25 years. He made the 2007 Lions band on alto saxophone and the bassoon.

Presley, along with co-drum major Brooke Keen, attended Drum Major Academy in Birmingham, Ala. June 11 through 15.

Attending the Itawamba Community College Band Camp were Presley, Jasmine Walton and Jenny Flint. All three were honored at the camp.

Flint was named the most outstanding guard IV routine class.

Walton was named the most outstanding guard IV fundamental and was named the most improved in guard captain’s class.

Presley was named the most outstanding drum major and the most outstanding in music theory II.

Traveling with the students was director Jada Forsythe in the intermediate level guard instructor.

The camp was held in Fulton July 8 through 13.

The band went through band camp the last week of July and began preparing for its “Dreamgirl” theme show to present on the field this fall.
