Mavis Bolton

 POPE– Mavis Bolton, 82, died Friday, July 27, 2007,  at her residence .

Services were Monday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Bolton, born to the late Melvin Sylvester Rooker and the late Jewell Reed Clemmer Rooker, in Ripley was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She was also retired from Panola Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin Bolton.

Survivors include: three sons, Bill Bolton of Frisco, N.C., Sylvester Bolton and Robert Lee Bolton, both of Pope; one daughter, Sandra Gant of Pope; one brother, Sylvester Rooker of Ripley; two sisters, Mary Osborn of Atlanta, Ga. and Marie Cox of Marks; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Chapel Hill Cemetery of Pope.

 

Quincy Ray Bryant

SARDIS– Quincy Ray Bryant, 75, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at his residence.

Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Burial  will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Moses Atwood will officiate. Visitation is today 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Bryant, born July 19, 1932, to the late John Ray and Alice Lorene Gill Bryant in Bono, Ark., was a retired self-employed business owner and auctioneer. He was also a member of Black Jack Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Amy Nell Perry Bryant of Sardis; three daughters, Fran Bryant Lewis of Clarksdale, Karen Bryant  McFarland of Batesville and Connie Bryant Long of Sardis; two sons, Charles Ray Bryant of Lake City, Ark. and Jimmy Lee Bryant of West Point; three brothers, Elmer Ray Bryant of Lyon, Jackie Lee Bryant of West Point and James Bryant of Pontotoc; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.


Micheal Paul Dover

POPE– Micheal Paul Dover, 31, died Saturday, July 21, 2007.

Services were Thursday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery near Teasdale. Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Dover, born Nov. 23, 1975, was a river boat employee.

Survivors include: his wife, Enid Dover of Pope; two daughters, Evelyn Micheala Dover and Mae Claire Dover; one son, Baylor Mack Dover; three brothers, Johnny Dover of Lambert, Mark Morales of Jackson and Lee Pinkston of Batesville; eight sisters, Barbara Ann Crocker, Billie Faye Dover, Jennifer Ware and Carolyn Pinkston, all of Pope, Betty Sue Downs of Grenada, Teresa Logan of Lambert, Sandy Smith of Batesville and Robbie Fillyaw of Charleston


Ralph E. Hall

BRANDON– Ralph E. Hall, 54, died Tuesday,  July 24, 2007, in Rankin County. He was the brother of Bonnie Mackey of Como.

 Rosary  services were Sunday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral services were Monday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home and graveside services were Monday at Surrettes  Cemetery in Tate County. Father Brian Carroll, Deacon Frank Agosta and Rev. Ricky Kennedy officiated. Ott and Lee Funeral Home had charge.

Hall was born in Memphis and was raised in Arkabutla. He lived most of his life in White Oak and had also lived in New York from 1997-2001 where he was a survivor of 911.

He was preceded in death by his god father, Buiel Chisholm.  

Survivors along with his sister include: two daughters, Melody Nolan of Brandon and Vickie Hall of Sacramento, Calif.;  one brother, Thomas Sidney Hall, of Tennessee.; one grandchild and his god mother, Edith D. Chisholm of White Oak.


Chloe Shalya Harmon

COURTLAND– Chloe Shalya Harmon, three weeks, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at her residence.

Graveside services were Saturday at Batesville Cemetery. Minister Virginia Pollard officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Harmon was born July 1, 2007, to Keith Harmon and Sharon Johnson Harmon, both of Courtland.

Survivors along with her parents include: four sisters, Candice Holman, LaTerica Hankins, LaKosha Hankins and Brittany Hankins, all of Courtland; three brothers, Jeffery Johnson and Keith Harmon Jr., both of Courtland and Antiono Ellis of Batesville; her grandparents, Stella Griffin of Batesville, Bernice Mister of Batesville and step-grandfather, Buford Mister of Batesville and Thomas Smalley of Charleston and her great-grandmother, Annie Smalley of Enid.


TyDarious Holman

BATESVILLE– TyDarious Holman, 8, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at his residence, from injuries received in a fire.

Services are Friday at noon at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Coya Blackburn will officiate.  Visitation will be Thursday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Holman was born June 4, 1999, in Batesville, to Tillman Jackson of Batesville and the late Stephanie Holman. He was the half-brother of the late Christian Owens.

Survivors along with his father include: his grandparents, Eunice Holman of Courtland, Rev. Mark and Lorrine Conner and Warneda Jackson, all of Batesville and his great-grandparents, Reine Robertson of Courtland and Katherine Clark and Fred and Susie Conner, all of Batesville.


Stephanie Holman

BATESVILLE– Stephanie Holman, 28, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at her residence from injuries received from a fire.

Services are Friday at noon at Shiloh M.B. Church. Rev. Coya Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Holman, born Oct. 8, 1978, in Batesville, to Rev. Mark Conner of Batesville and Eunice Robertson Holman of Courtland, was a cashier for Gas Mart and a member of Shiloh M.B. Church.

She was the mother of the late TyDarious Holman and the late Christian Owens.

Survivors along with her mother and father include: her step-mother, Lorrine Conner of Batesville; her grandparents, Reine Robertson of Courtland and Fred and Susie Conner of Batesville; one sister, Kimberly Holman of Courtland; two step-sisters, Sharon Conner and Teresa Barksdale, both of Batesville; two brothers, Titus Holman of Courtland and Braun Holman of Pope and three step-brothers, Marcus Conner of Batesville, Chris Conner of Marks and Jeremy Conner of Atlanta, Ga.


Christian Owens

BATESVILLE–Christian Owens, 23 months, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at her residence from injuries received in a fire.

Services are Friday at noon at Shiloh M.B. Church. Rev. Coya Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Visitation will be Thursday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Owens was born Aug. 23, 2005, in Oxford, to the late Christopher Owens and the late Stephanie Holman.

She was also the half-sister of the late TyDarious Holman.

Survivors include: her grandparents, Eunice Holman of Courtland, Rev. Mark and Lorrine Conner of Batesville and Shelia Owens Lewis of Oxford; her great-grandparents, Reine Robertson of Courtland, Fred and Susie Conner of Batesville and Gracie Smith of Abbeville and one sister, Yasmine Alexander of Pontotoc.


Christopher Darnell Owens

BATESVILLE– Christopher Darnell Owens, 28, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at his residence from injuries received in a fire.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Union Hill M.B. Church. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery in Oxford. Hodges Funeral Home in Oxford has charge.

He was also the father of the late Christian Owens.

Survivors include: his mother, Shelia Lewis of Abbeville; his father, Alex Bailey of New Albany; one daughter, Yasmine Alexander of Pontotoc; one sister, Tanisha Lewis of Abbeville; two brothers, Dexter Lewis of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Michael Lewis of Abbeville and his grandparents, Gracie and Charlie Smith of Etta.


Hazel Merle Yarbrough

CROWDER–Hazel Merle Yarbrough, 78, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Desoto Baptist Memorial  Hospital in Southaven,

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Crowder Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Yarbrough, born Oct. 6, 1928, to the late Eugene Adderson Goggans  and Drucilla Gates Goggans, was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Yarbrough; one son, Terry Yarbrough; one brother,  Bill Goggans and three sisters, Gladys McCarter, Elizabeth Goggans and Eloise McDonald.

Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth “Ken”  Yarbrough of Crowder and Tommy Yarbrough of Kingston, Tenn.; three daughters, Peggy Elmore of Horn Lake,  Gail Tullos of Enid and Debby Hudson of Hernando; one sister, Faye Caldwell of Olive Branch; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
