Shirley Faye Duke Lewis

SARDIS–Shirley Faye Duke Lewis, 73, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at her residence.

Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ray Cross will officiate. Visitation is today 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Lewis, born May 24, 1934, to the late Leonard Cooper Duke and the late Clyde McCullar Duke was a homemaker. She graduated from Sardis High School. She also attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. She was a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.R. “Bubba” Lewis.

Survivors include: her son, Cooper Lewis and wife Susan of Batesville and two grandchildren, Mary Lynn Lewis and Russ Lewis of Batesville.

Memorials may be made to North Delta School, 330 Green Wave Lane, Batesville.

Taurus Milan

BATESVILLE–Taurus Milan, 29, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007.

Services were Saturday at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church in Como. Rev. Eric Nelson officiated. Eddie Robinson and Sons Funeral Home had charge.

Milan, born Aug. 3, 1978, in Batesville, to Mary Milan of Sardis and Elam Turner of Batesville, was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church in Senatobia.

He was preceded in death by two children, Taurnisha and Tartianna Brassell.

Survivors along with his parents include: his step-father, Jimmy Lee Milan; three sisters, Tammy Milan, LaToya Milan and Sherita Milan, all of Sardis; one brother, Elton “Tiny” Turner of Batesville; his grandparents, Rosie Lee Nelson of Sardis, Janie and Edward Turner of Batesville and his great-grandmother, Joanna Jackson of Senatobia.

Jack Moreland Jr.

KOSCIUSKO–Jack Moreland Jr., 76, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at the Veteran’s Nursing Home in Kosciusko. He was the brother of Annie L. Smith of Batesville.

There will not be a visitation or funeral service at this time. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Moreland, born Aug. 28, 1930, in Tula, was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors along with his sister include: one daughter, Gayle Byrd Moreland and one son, Jimi Jack Moreland of Washington State.

John Robert “Bucky” Spidle Jr.

LAMBERT–John Robert “Bucky” Spidle Jr., 72, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at his residence. He was the father of Donna Waller of Batesville.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lambert. Rev. Don O’Quin and Rev. Wayne Long will officiate. Burial will be in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Buckey, born Aug. 19, 1934, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lambert. He was a retired locomotive engineer for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

Survivors along with his daughter include: his wife, Nina Keeton Spidle of Lambert; one son, John Robert “Butch” Spidle III of Columbus and five grandchildren.

Lucille Bevell Stroupe

BATESVILLE– Lucille Bevell Stroupe, 92, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Blackjack Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Stroupe, born Oct. 4, 1914, in Batesville, to the late James Blaine and Annie Wilson Bevell, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Oxford. She was a homemaker and employed at the Hosiery Mill in Batesville. She also worked at Sardis Luggage Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard G. Stroupe; two sisters, Hazel Barnes and Margaret Wood; three brothers, Baxter Bevell, Calvin Bevell and Alton Bevell and one daughter, Carolyn Stroupe Arnold.

Survivors include: five daughters, Peggy Jean Stroupe Bolen and husband Bud, Barbara Ann Stroupe Helmes and husband Bobby, Jeanette Stroupe Henning, Marilyn Kay Stroupe Ware and husband E.V., all of Batesville and Patricia Dale Stroupe Stevens of Houston, Texas; two sons, Billy Gordon Stroupe and wife Ann of Batesville and Jimmy Donald Stroupe and wife Glenda of Gilmer, Texas; one sister, Bessie Ruth Bevell Purser of Southaven; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
