SP Tigers go 3-1 this week

The South Panola summer baseball team went 3-1 this week, splitting with Center Hill and sweeping Oxford.

Monday, South Panola won the first game against Center Hill 16-1 and lost the second game 4-0.

Tuesday, South Panola defeated Oxford 7-5 and 7-2.

South Panola has now lost six games this summer and tied in four.

Against Center Hill, Whit Whitten pitched the win in four innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

Hitting for the Tigers in the first game were Monroe Harrison, one hit, two walks, one run batted in (RBI), two runs; Tyler Benson, three hits, two RBIs; David Renfroe, two hits, one double, three RBIs; Ethan Bright, one double, one RBI, one run; Corbin Moore, tow hits, two runs; Bryce Belvin, one hit, one run, one walk; Dane Broome, two hits, one RBI, two runs; Whitten, two hits, one walk, one RBI, one run; Ryan Maxwell, one hit, two RBIs, two runs; and Brian Fortner, two walks, one RBI, two runs.

Getting hits in the second game against Center Hill were Matt Hendrix, one double; Ryan Maxwell, two hits; Nolan Parker, one walk; and Monroe Harrison, one hit, one walk.

In the first game against Oxford, South Panola scored six runs in the first inning and one in the second inning. Oxford buckled down and held them after that.

Oxford used most of the other innings to cut into the Tiger lead, but the defense held off a seventh inning push by Oxford to secure the win.

Robert Ales pitched six innings for the Tigers and got the win. He was relieved in the seventh by Bright who earned the save.

Bright hit a three-run homer in the first inning to put the Tigers up 4-0. Monroe Harrison who walked to get on based scored on a passed ball by Oxford.

Benson and Renfroe walked to get on base and in scoring position to come home on Bright’s homerun.

Corbin Moore singled to get on base and scored on a passed ball. Dane Broome singled to get on base and scored on a Whit Whitten single.

The Tiger’s final score in the second was on a double by Bryce Belvin to drive home Bright who walked to get on base.

Belvin picked up the win in the second game, pitching all five innings.

South Panola scored two runs in the first and five in the second.

Harrison and Bright scored on a triple by Moore in the first inning.

Hitting single RBIs in the second were Mitchell Babb, Harrison and Benson to drive home Broome, Whitten and Cody Bryant.

Moore’s single in the second inning drove home Harrison and Benson.

The Tigers will be back in action Monday and Tuesday at home to host Water Valley and Lewisburg at 5 and 7 p.m. each night.
