Townsend chosen for All-Star basketball team
By Myra Bean
South Panola High School multi-sport player Sabrina Townsend has been chosen to play in the Mississippi All-Star basketball game on July 14.
According to Lady Tiger head coach Ralph Stallings, Townsend is the first girl basketball player chosen for this honor.
Townsend averaged 13.4 points, 2.1 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game and shot 77 percent from the free throw line.
She was selected All-Division. The north half did not choose an all-tournament team like it has in the past, according to Stallings. He said she would probably have made that team as she averaged 28 points per game in the north half tournament.
“Sabrina has developed into a great ‘floor general’ (point-guard slot),” Stallings said. “She is not real talkative, just does by example. I love to see the ball in her hand for that last shot.”
The game will be played at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton at 1 p.m.
Townsend will see local business and individuals selling ads for the program book.
