Black Jack Karaoke

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Just about every bar and joint I went in when I was young and dumb, had karaoke, and the only people that would sing had to be three sheets in the wind and the ones that listen where probably four sheets.

Well, the Black Jack Community Center has changed the image of karaoke. On Fridays and Saturdays (we let the people know the dates in The Panolian and our local radio) some of the greatest folks in and around Panola County come out to sing, gospel, country and rock-n-roll. People like: Shelly and Tabitha Turner, Pat Cole, Jamie Tedford, John Rogers, Mike Ware, Royce and Fran Locke, Sonny and Doris Wright, Noel and Regina and Beth Aldridge, Lee Crawford, Kay and Kooter Harmon, Faith O’Conner, Richard and Juanita Parks, Mack McLaughlin, Eddie and Lois Mullins and a lot of others.

I’m always amazed at the talent we have in our community. Kay and Faith do a lot of the oldies, Kooter does some really funny songs, like “The Mississippi Squirrel” and you haven’t heard great karaoke till you hear Richard and Wynita Parks singing “You’re the Reason our Kids are Ugly.”

Mack McLaughlin does a great Hank Williams.

We invite all to come out for some good family fun. Some of the children love to sing and we love to hear them. Everyone that sings is a “star.”

So if you love to sing or just enjoy listening, please join us. There is a $3 admission and food and drink are available. All proceeds are given to the center.

Look forward to seeing you.
