Court Report

Murder suspects make first appearance in municipal court

Four defendants accused of murder were bound over to the Grand Jury during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.

Judge Jay Westfaul set bond at $ 2,250,000 for Roderick Griffin, 251 Randall, Courtland, who was charged with murder, aggravated assault and drive by shooting.

Percy Roberson, 435-A Atkinson, Batesville, had no bond set due to already being out on a felony bond.

He was bound over to the Grand Jury for murder, aggravated assault, drive by shooting and a prior charge of simple assault. He also had old fines of $296 that have been due since August 2006.

Eric Smith, 114 Lawson St., Batesville, and Henry Patterson Jr., 318 Panola, Batesville, both had a bond of $2,250,000 for murder, aggravated assault and drive by shooting.

Shannon E. Looney, 1835 CR 25, Water Valley, had a bond reduction from $100,000 to $15,000 for possession of precursors. His case was also bound over to the Grand Jury.

James Fillyaw, Rt. 2 Box 205, Oakland, was given a bond reduction from the original $250,000 to $15,000 for possession of stolen firearms and possession of precursors. The case was bound over to the Grand Jury.

Tenisha Murphy, 3540 Sunset, Jackson, was bound over to the Grand Jury for prescription forgery.

Scott Foster, 20 Peters Hill Rd., Enid, was bound over to the Grand Jury for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Domestic violence
Malcolm Arnold, 149 Richardson Rd., Louisville, entered a "not guilty" plea to domestic violence-simple assault. A trial was set for January 24.

Charlie Heath Jr., 214 Dewberry St., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence. He was fined $355.

Deroy Johnson, 123 CR 105, Oxford, was given a trial date for domestic violence-simple assault.

Daniel Garcia, 216 Broadway, Batesville, was fined $355 for domestic violence-simple assault.

Shona Turner, 949 Wells Ext., Courtland, entered a "not guilty" plea to domestic violence.

A trial was set for January 24.

James Scott IV, 192 M. Flowers Rd., Batesville, entered a "not guilty" plea to domestic violence-simple assault.

Roy C. Williams was sentenced to 50 days in jail for contempt of court-old fines of $1,340 that have been due since June 2005. He also entered not guilty pleas to domestic violence-simple and simple assault.

Angie Sanford, 6505 Curtis Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple assault and was fined $265. She also had an old fine of $371. She was given 30 days to satisfy her fines.

Simple Assault
Paris Green, 104 Rudd Rd., Sardis, was found not guilty of simple assault after the affiant Veronica Wren failed to appear to prosecute.

She also had new traffic charges for no driver’s license and speeding. She was fined $401.

The affiant, Wren, was issued a warrant to be in court January 31 to show cause of why she shouldn’t be held in contempt of court for filing charges and not prosecuting.

Daniel Watts, 2683 Anthony Rd., Pope, paid his fines of $635 in full for simple assault and old fines.

Shoplifting
LaClear Taylor, 339 Cauthen Circle, Senatobia, entered a "not guilty" plea to shoplifting and public profanity. A trial will be heard January 31.

Contempt
Dineka Wilkins, 714 W. Pearl, Sardis, paid her old fines of $1,583 that have been due since September 2005 in full prior to court.

Elizabeth Pinkston was sentenced to 19 days in jail for contempt of court old fines of $722 that have been due since October 2004. She was also charged with driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, making her total fines $1,184.

Cases set for trial
Lawanda Smith, 19049 Hwy. 51 South, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to running a stop sign and no proof of insurance.

Timothy Hill, 117 Dickey Dr., Batesville, had a speeding case dismissed.

Geriandi Jackson, 334 Cosby Rd., Enid, was found not guilty of improper turn.

Connie Shegog, 202 Gordon Dr., Batesville, was found guilty of running a stop sign.

Tickets
Lawanda N. Smith, 19049 Hwy. 51 South, Sardis, was fined $339 for running a stop sign and no proof of insurance.

The lower fine was imposed for no proof of insurance after she proved she received insurance.

Stevie L. Bonner
, 415 Warren St., Como, was fined $583 for no proof of insurance.

Andrew D. Lawhead, 380 Dogwood Dr., Oxford, was fined $583 for no proof of insurance.

Vatesha M. Sanford, 180 Ruby Rd., Courtland, was fined $339 for running a stop sign, no child restraint and expired tag.

Portia B. Blackmon, 13 CR 356, Oxford, had a no proof of insurance ticket dismissed and was fined $113 for speeding.

Lorenzo D. Ward, 1336 Adams Rd., Sardis, was fined $281 for no driver’s license.
