MADKINS, Silas
    
BATESVILLE- Silas Madkins, 58, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services are Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Coya Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Madkins, born Sept. 11, 1948, to the late Arthur Madkins and the late Clara Knox, was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church.
     Survivors include: his wife, Earnestine Madkins of Pope; one daughter, Tanya Madkins of Batesville; two sons, Tyrome Madkins of Fort Wainwright, Alaska and Kerwin Madkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Lizzie Milam of Southaven, Gearldine Madkins, Irma Smith and LouBirdia Holmes-Hill, all of St. Louis, Mo.; four brothers, George Madkins of Memphis, J.C. Madkins of Chicago, Ill., James M. Madkins of St. Louis, Mo. and David Flowers of Coastiville, Pa.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


MAGEE, James E.
    
SHREVEPORT, LA- Mr. James E. Magee, 67, died November 30, 2006.
     Memorial services were Monday, December 3, 2006, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Shreveport, La. Rev. Mickey Parker officiated. Rose-Neath Funeral Home had charge.
     Magee was born and raised in Batesville, where he conducted a farming operation for many years before expanding to the North Louisiana area. Upon retirement, Mr. Magee began a second career in agri-business in the Shreveport area.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Ola Goodwin and John Hubert Magee, and brothers, Richard Earl Magee and Danny Carroll Magee.
     Survivors include: his wife, Patsy Robison Magee; one son, James Robert "Rob" Magee; one daughter, Molly Magee Roppolo; one sister, Peggy Selvy, and two brothers, Billy Magee and Houston Magee and four grandchildren.
     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.

MALONE, Marion Arthur "Tooter"
    
SARDIS – Marion Arthur "Tooter" Malone, 87, died Sunday, August 13, 2006, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert Hickey will officiate. Burial will be in Union Baptist Cemetery. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
     Malone, born Aug. 2, 1919, in Lexington to the late Joe and Sarah Brown Malone, was an employee of Missouri Pacific Railroad and a member of Union Baptist Church in Sardis. He was also a veteran of WWII.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma L. Smith.
     Survivors include three daughters, Betty M. Barker of Eads, Tenn., Betty L. Hudson of Sardis and Rhenda J. Miltner of Ardmore, Ala.; one son, Michael Anthony Leeton of Olive Branch; one sister, Agnes Hutchinson of Utica; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


MANGRUM, John Spencer
    
BATESVILLE – John Spencer Mangrum, 82, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006.
     Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in McIvor Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Mangrum, born Sept. 16, 1923, in Panola County to the late Dow Joshua Mangrum and the late Jessie Patterson Mangrum, was a retired electrician, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Air Force.
     Survivors include his step-daughter, Billie Wilson of Hernando, and one grandchild.


MANGUM, Ellen Smith
    
HERNANDO- Ellen Smith Mangum, 56, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, December 4, 2006.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Hernando Funeral Home. Hernando Funeral Home has charge.
     Mangum was a homemaker.
     Survivors include: one daughter, Tracy Mangum Cook of Hernando; one son, Thomas E. Mangum of Hernando; two sisters, Mary Smith Sorey of Southaven and Bonita Mangum Staten of Greenwood; a host of grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.


MANNING, Rev. Cornelia
     LAKE JACKSON, TEXAS – Rev. Cornelia Manning, 100, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at Village on the Creek in Clute, Texas.
     Among her survivors are a daughter, Sue Williams and three grandchildren, Margaret Russell, Tommie Sue Heafner and Ronald Williams of Batesville.
     Graveside services were Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rev. Don Brankel and Rev. B.J. Smith officiated. Texarkana Funeral Home had charge.
     Manning, "Mama Manning," born Dec. 6, 1905, in Malvern, Ark., was a retired minister, having pastured in Bradley, Ark., Ben Lomond, Ark., Dangerfield, Texas, Texarkana, Texas, Mt. Pleasant, Texas and was a member of Northside Assembly of God Church in Texarkana, Texas.
     Survivors besides her Batesville connections include another daughter, Nancy Heathcock of Lake Jackson, Tex.,and 15 other grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.


MANSER, Gene
    
SLEDGE- Gene Manser, 81, died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery near Holly Springs. Visitation is today 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
     Manser, born, Dec. 31, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded two purple hearts while serving with the 28th Reconnaissance Troop (Mech.) of the 28th Infantry Division. He was also a Quitman County Deputy Sheriff.
     Survivors include: his wife, Lois M. Manser of Sledge; two sons, Richard Moore of Sardis and Robert Henry Moore of Kileen, Texas; one daughter, Glenda Warman of Horn Lake; one sister, Nadine Manser of Florida; three brothers, Tudy Manser, David Manser and Dean Manser, all of Kansas City, Mo. and five grandchildren.


MARKET, Dartha Mae
    
BATESVILLE – Dartha Mae Market, 71, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at her residence.
     Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Cemetery in Batesville. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Market, born July 12, 1935, to the late J.C. Vaughn and the late Everlena Fox, was a homemaker and a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville.
     Survivors include one daughter, Lula Harrison of Jackson; one son, Jimmie Lee Vaughn of Oxford; three sisters, Julean Morgan and Susie Conner, both of Batesville and Florence Lewis of Sardis; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


MARTIN, William Leroy
    
BATESVILLE – William Leroy Martin, 74, died Friday, August 4, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Monday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Pope. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Martin, born Sept. 5, 1931, in Panola County to the late William Ray and Mamie Duke Martin, was a retired logger and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
     Survivors include one son, William Earl Martin of Batesville; two brothers, Jimmy Martin and Charles D. Martin, both of Batesville and three grandchildren.


MASK, Harvey E.
    
CRENSHAW- Harvey E. Mask, 84, died Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Baptist Desoto in Southaven.
     Services were Saturday at Sarah Baptist Church. Rev. Layron Self and Rev. James Stevens officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Mask, born Sept. 9, 1922, in Pontotoc, was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and a member of Sarah Baptist Church.
     He was preceded in death by one daughter, Amelia Joy Mask and a son, Donnie Mask.
     Survivors include: his wife, Mary E. Mask of Crenshaw; two daughters, Diane Smith and Dolores Chrestman of Hernando; five sons, Delane Mask of Randolph, Wayne Mask of Senatobia, Dick Mask of Lee Summitt, Mo., Billy Mask of Sarah and Perry Mask of Holly Springs; one sister, Bertha Wallace of Herber Springs, Ark.; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.


MATHES, Tom Harris Sr.
    
SARDIS – Tom Harris Mathes Sr., 86, died Friday, February 24, 2006, at his residence.
     Services were Monday at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church near Sardis. Rev. Kenny White and Rev. Bobby Caples officiated. Burial was in Peach Creek Cemetery near Sardis. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Mathes, born Sept. 27, 1919, to the late George Mathes and the late Leta Harris Mathes, was a retired parts manager for Ford Motor Company, a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and an Air Force Veteran of WWII.
     Survivors include his wife, Grace Whitehead Mathes; one daughter Nancy M. Gray of Cordova, Tenn.; one son, Tom H. Mathes Jr. of Horn Lake; one sister, Nancy Mathes of Sardis and five grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Sardis.


MATTHEWS, Kenneth Charles
    
Kenneth Charles Matthews, 49, died Sunday, October, 1, 2006, of head trauma suffered during an automobile accident on Mississippi 17 north of Carrollton.
     Services were Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ron Sessum officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Carrollton under the direction of Wilson and Knight Funeral Home.
     He was born Aug. 18, 1957, to Charles and Faye Hood Matthews. He was a former employee of Big D Irrigation, but was more recently self-employed in the irrigation service and repair business. Mr. Matthews was a Baptist.
     He is survived by his mother, Faye Matthews of Greenwood; a daughter, Keri Matthews of Sardis; one son, Kristopher Matthews of Sardis; and one brother, Eddie Matthews of Greenwood.
     Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.


MATTOX, Hermon G.
    
SARDIS – Hermon G. Mattox, 79, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at his residence in Sardis from cancer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Sardis First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
     A native of Alcorn County, Mattox had been a resident of Sardis for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and with the occupational forces immediately following the war. He served 21 years in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with 35 years of service. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where he was deacon emeritus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Kilough Mattox.
     He is survived by a daughter, Genell Clayton of Sardis; three sons, Jerry L. Mattox of Denison, Tex., David L. Mattox of Sardis and Ray Mattox of Greenwood; two sisters, Eula Mattox Willhite of Rienzi and Kate Meekins of San Angelo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brooke Savell of Brandon, Allen Anthony of Pope, Chris Mattox of Hattiesburg, Jerry L. Mattox II of Denison, Texas, Jennifer Mattox of Cedar Hill, Tenn., Jason Mattox of Sardis and Madeline Mattox of Greenwood and nine great-grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Baptist Children’s Village or a charity of the donor’s choice.


MAXCY, Thomas Raymond
    
LAMBERT – Thomas Raymond Maxcy, 87, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale.
     Services are today at 2:30 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. Don O’Quin will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
     Maxcy, born January 1, 1919, in Belden, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lambert. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stoddard Maxcy and two brothers, Paul Maxcy Jr. and George Maxcy.
     Survivors include his son, Allyn Stoddard Maxcy of Lambert.
     Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Lambert.


MAYFIELD, Edward Earl
    
MEMPHIS –  Edward Earl Mayfield, 78, died Thursday, November 9, 2006, at his residence.
     Graveside services were Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Hal Johnson officiated. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Mayfield, born Dec. 22, 1927, in Panola County to the late James Ira Mayfield and the late Ruby Garnett Durham Mayfield, was a sales representative for Southern Hardware, a member of Clarksdale Baptist Church and an avid Ole Miss football fan.
     Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Kolb of Cordova, Tenn. and one sister, Norma Gurley of Memphis.


McAFEE, Ruth Peterson
    
BATESVILLE – Ruth Peterson McAfee, 80, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare.
     McAfee, born April 5, 1926, in Sturgis, was certified nurses’ aide.
     Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Burrow of Memphis, Tenn.; one son, Neal Peterson of Water Valley; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
     McAfee’s body was donated to science through the Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis. The family requests memorials be sent to AseraCare Hospice of Senatobia.


McARTHUR, William
     SARDIS – William McArthur, 86, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at his residence.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at the Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation is today 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the Sardis United Methodist Church. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
     McArthur, born June 20, 1920, to the late James Floyd McArthur and the late Ruth Ellen Burleyson McArthur, was a restaurant and motel owner. He was also a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church.
     Survivors include: his wife, Betty Jean Wilkes McArthur of Sardis; one daughter, Betty Kay McArthur Jones of Columbus; two sons, William Donald McArthur and Michael Greer McArthur, both of Sardis; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
     Memorials may be sent to the Sardis United Methodist Church.


McCULLAR, Sara Jane Byers
    
WATER VALLEY – Sara Jane Byers McCullar, 57, formerly of Corpus Christi, Texas, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Memorial services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     McCullar, born in Memphis to the late Charles G. and Martha Womack Byers, received her bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Texas A & M University  – Corpus Christi. She was a former risk manager for Christus Spohn Health Systems of South Texas and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas.
     Survivors include her husband, Edward Terry McCullar of Water Valley; one daughter, Jennifer McCullar Zupo of Kyle, Texas; one son, Micheal G. McCullar of San Marcos, Texas; two sisters, Robbie Byers of Tupelo and Fran Byers of Water Valley and her mother, Martha Womack Byers of Batesville.
     Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, the American Heart Association and the Oxford Humane Society.


McCRAY, James "Bear"
    
BATESVILLE- James "Bear" McCray, 54, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Friday at Liberty Hill M.B. Church. Rev. Jacob Hentz officiated. Burial was in Eureka Cemetery in Courtland. Hodges Funeral Home had charge.
     McCray was a retired employee of the City of Batesville.
     Survivors include his wife Minnie McCray of Batesville; his mother Nellie Ruth Chapman of Batesville; one sister Josie Mathis of Batesville; two brothers, Howard McCray of Batesville and Raymond Chapman of Seattle, Wash. and his grandmother Rosetta Holmes of Batesville.


McCULLAR, Frankie B.
    
SENATOBIA – Frankie B. McCullar, 98, died February 21, 2006, at North Oak Regional Medical Center.
     Services were Thursday at Dickins Chapel. Burial was in Lovejoy Cemetery in Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     McCullar, born Feb. 19, 1908, in Leakesville to the late John Marshall Gross and the late Margaret Francis Harris Gross, was a homemaker and a member of Lovejoy Methodist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis McCullar, and by Gravis McCullar, Ray McCullar, Grady Lee McCullar, James Clifton McCullar, Shirley Ann Austin, William Leon McCullar and her granddaughter Felicia Appleton.
     Survivors include one son, Roy McCullar of Batesville, 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.


McCULLOUGH, Frances Irene Scott
    
CHARLESTON – Frances Irene Scott McCullough, 91, died Saturday, February 19, 2006, at Northeast Baptist Memorial Hospital.
     Services were Wednesday at Charleston Church of God. Burial was in Magnolia Garden in Charleston. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.
     McCullough, born April 22, 1914, was a homemaker.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. MCullough, and two sons, Kenneth McCullough and Maynard McCullough.
     Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Dees and Jean Jones, both of Eupora, Norma Larue of Dallas, Texas and Joy Sumner of Charleston; two sons, Sonny McCullough of Coffeeville and Jerry McCullough of Sardis; one sister, Ruby Snider of Memphis; one brother, Joe Robert Sanders of River Banks, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.


McDOWELL, Mary Opal
    
BATESVILLE – Mary Opal McDowell, 82, died Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Rev. Rusty Fair will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
     McDowell, born Feb. 15, 1924, in Crowder to the late Henry Bruce White and the late Darnie Dee Hendrix White, was a homemaker and a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McDowell; one daughter, Mary Ruth Mitchell and brothers Hiram Howard and Robert White.
     Survivors include three sons, J.W. Mitchell Jr. of Coldwater, Bruce Mitchell of Marks and Jim Cole McDowell of Senatobia; two daughters, Dinah Faye Dugger of Batesville and Bess McDowell Fair of Batesville; one sister, Faye Brister of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


McGEE, Emma Louise Miles
     CLEVELAND, OHIO – Emma Louise Miles McGee, 69, sister-in-law of Annie Pearl Miles and Inez McGee of Courtland, died November 28, 2006, at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
     Services were Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at the House of Wills Funeral Chapel in Cleveland, Ohio. Pastor J. Verles Branch officiated. The House of Wills Funeral Chapel had charge.
     McGee, born August 24, 1937, to the late Grady Miles and the late Evelyna Clark Miles, was employed with G & S Metal Company for 37 years in Cleveland.
     She was preceded in death by one daughter, Elaine McGee and two brothers, Felix and G.D. "Buddy" Miles.
     Survivors include: her husband, Clarence Bo McGee; four daughters, Shirley Brown, Dianne McGee, Louise McGee and Melissa McGee, all of Cleveland; one sister, Bobby Nell Miles of Cleveland; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


McINNIS, Ida Mae
    
PITTSBORO – Ida Mae McInnis, 85, died Sunday, November 26, 2006, at Bruce Nursing Center. She was the grandmother of Christopher Joseph Gulledge of Batesville.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. Brother Lyndle Davis and Brother Jeff Gilder will officiate. Burial will be in Pittsboro Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home has charge.
     McInnis, born July 5, 1921, was a retired seamstress and a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church.
     Survivors along with her grandson include: two daughters, Sadie Mae Gulledge of Pittsboro and Judy Moxon of Oklahoma.


McKEE, Ann Karr
    
COURTLAND – Ann Karr McKee, 59, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at her residence.
     Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Dr. Johnny Spencer and Rev. Todd Pittman officiated. Burial was in Orwood Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     McKee, born Oct. 27, 1946, in Enid to the late Hubert and Margaret Beard Karr, was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and was a retired nurse for Panola Mills.
     Survivors include one daughter, Angela McKee Byler of Everton, Ark.; four sons, Bobby Mitchell and Scotty Mitchell, both of Batesville, Tommy Ray McKee of Courtland and Steve McKee of Bolivar, Tenn.; three sisters, Geraldine Karr Putman of Batesville, Jamie Karr Criddle of Belzoni and Sarah Karr Tartt of Charleston; one brother, Joe Bob Rodgers of Water Valley and nine grandchildren.


McKINNEY, Rev. Grady Sr.
    
SARDIS – Rev. Grady McKinney Sr., 75, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Thursday at the Sardis Educational Building. Rev. Keith Williams officiated. Burial was in Old Rock Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     McKinney, born July 23, 1930, in Sardis to the late Armstead McKinney and Willie Mae Farley, was the founder and pastor of St. John M.B. Church where he was also a member. He was also the former pastor of Parrish Grove M.B. Church, St. Peter M.B. Church, Basin Chapel M.B. Church, Clear Creek M.B. Church and Zion Grove M.B. Church. He was a minister for 45 years in Panola, Yalobusha and Lafayette counties. He was a member of the Masonic Panola Lodge #6A.
     Survivors include his wife, Maggie Lee McKinney of Sardis; six daughters, Edith McKinney of Batesville, Gracie McKinney Williams, Zipporah McKinney and Katrina McKinney Kimble, all of Memphis, Patricia McKinney of Lexington, Ky. and Velma McKinney Glenn of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Brother Grady McKinney Jr. of Sardis and Lester McKinney of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one sister, Earnestine McKinney Butler of Sardis; 12 grandchildren and two great  -grandchildren.


McKINNEY, Irene Armstead
    
COURTLAND- Irene Armstead McKinney, 49, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Antioch M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     McKinney, born Oct. 23, 1956, to the late Sammy James Armstead and Hettie Pearl Ladd, was a retired cook and a member of Antioch M.B. Church.
     Survivors include four daughters, Phillis Armstead, Glenda Roberson, Torsha McKinney and Tunisha McKinney, all of Courtland; four sisters, Earnestine McMurray, Dorene Barksdale, Pennie Milan and Joyce R. Ladd, all of Batesville; six brothers, Sammy Armstead of Batesville, Sammy Armstead Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Earl Armstead of Courtland, David Armstead of Chicago, Frank Armstead of Crowder and Charles Armstead of Batesville; one step-sister, Hettie Mae Armstead of Chicago and 10 grandchildren.


McLEMORE, William Thomas "Bill"
    
SARDIS –  William Thomas "Bill" McLemore, 77, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Memphis.
     Services were Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Sardis. Rev. Jerry Sanford and Rev. Phil Weatherwax officiated. Burial was in West Point Memorial Gardens. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     McLemore, born March 27, 1928, to the late Chester Edward McLemore and the late Mary Tipton McLemore in Clay County, was a graduate of Mississippi State University and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a former County Agent in Panola County and a farm consultant in Panola County and the surrounding area for 32 years. He was a member of Siloam Methodist Church in Clay County.
     Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Clara Todd McLemore of Sardis; a son and daughter in law, Todd and Karen McLemore of Grenada; a daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Mark White of Grenada; one sister, Bette Estridge of West Point; two brothers, Chet McLemore of Palm Springs, Calif. and Homer McLemore of East Windham, Maine; and four grandchildren, Diana McLemore, Jennie White, Meagan White, and John William White, all of Grenada.


McWILLIAMS, James H. III
    
GREENWOOD – James H. McWilliams III, 80, formerly of Sardis, died Thursday, November 23, 2006, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood
     Graveside services are today at 10 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Oliver Funeral Home has charge.
     McWilliams, born to the late Mr. and Mrs. James H. McWilliams II, was a Mason and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
     He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen McWilliams Baker.
     Survivors include two daughters, Paula McWilliams Thomas of Greenwood and Carolyn Denise Serrano of Davie, Fla.; three sons, James McWilliams IV, Ted McWilliams and Bill McWilliams, all of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


MEEK, John Edward
    
BATESVILLE –  John Edward Meek, 74, died Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Tri – Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Pat Ludlam and Rev. Ed Woodall will officiate. Burial will be in Pisgah United Methodist Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
     Meek, born May 19, 1932, in Panola County to the late Lester Caldwell Meek and the late Mary Eileen Davis Meek, was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and an assistant resource manager of Enid Lake.
     He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Rowland and Sue Caton and four brothers, Meurrier Meek, L.C. Meek Jr., Roy D. Meek and Robert Meek.
     Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Clara Louise Meek of Courtland; two sons, John Wade Meek of Courtland and Caldwell Meek of Starkville and one brother, Thomas Woodard Meek of Courtland.

MELTON, Charlie Howard "Bully"
    
CHARLESTON – Charlie Howard "Bully" Melton, 76, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at his residence.
     Services were Monday at Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston. Burial was in Magnolia Garden in Charleston. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.
     He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Melton.

     Meurrier, born Oct. 19, 1926, to the late Edward A. and Verde G. Zigler Owen, was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
     Survivors include her husband, Fred R. Meurrier of Batesville; two daughters, Trina M. Caffey of Batesville and Anita M. Landrum of Cordova, Tenn.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


MEYER, Debbie P.
    
BATESVILLE – Debbie P. Meyer, 50, died Sunday, October 8, 2006, at her residence.
     Mass was Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father John Bohn officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Meyer, born July 30, 1956, to Eugene P. and the late Pauline Holliman Papania, was a Level 1 firefighter with the Mt. Olivet Fire Department in Batesville. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was active in her husband’s family business, "Bud’s Mobile Homes," in Biloxi until April 2002. She was also a homemaker.
     In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Tony Meyer of Batesville; one daughter, Theresa Meyer of Batesville; one son, Carl A. Meyer of Batesville; two sisters, Gina Papania and Julie Papania Johnson, both Gulfport and four brothers, Steve Papania of Picayune, Wayne Papania of Batesville, Butch Papania of Bay St. Louis and Greg Papania of Gulfport.

BATESVILLE – Jamie Rochell Milam, 28, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at her residence.

     Milam, born Jan. 5, 1978, in Sardis to James Curtis Milam of Chicago and Pennie Armstead Milam of Courtland, was a factory worker for Framed Picture Enterprises and a member of Nelson Chapel M.B. Church in Pope.
     Survivors, along with her parents, include three sons, Quin’Travious Milam, Bobby Smalley Jr. and Jamico Smalley, all of Courtland; five sisters, Sandra McKay and Courtney Milam, both of Batesville, Reshunda Milam, Iesha Milam and Jessica Milam, all of Chicago and three brothers, Roman Milam of Batesville, James Milam Jr. and John Powell, both of Chicago.


MILAM, Shirley Carpenter
    
OXFORD – Shirley Carpenter Milam, 59, died Monday, June 5, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
     Services were Wednesday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Steve Quarles officiated. Burial was in Church Grove Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home had charge.
     Milam, born to Hettie Christine Carpenter of Oxford and the late Arthur Shirley Carpenter, was a faithful member of College Hill Heights Baptist Church for 30 years where she served as pianist. She was also a retired manager for Kroger’s in Oxford.
She was preceded in death by one brother Melvin Carpenter.
     Survivors, along with her mother, include her husband John D. Milam of Oxford; one son Randal Scott Carpenter of Oxford; one sister Sylvia Garner of Oxford and two brothers, Kenneth Carpenter and Lyndon Carpenter, both of Oxford.

MILES, Patricia Ann Taylor Burgess
    
COURTLAND –  Patricia Ann Taylor Burgess Miles, 39, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl of natural causes.
     Services were Thursday at Persimmon Hill M.B. Church in Enid. Rev. T.A. Lawrence officiated. Burial was in Pope Chapel Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Miles, born March 16, 1965, in Sardis to Ethel Mae Williams Taylor and the late James T. Taylor, was a retired nurse aide and a member of Salem M.B. Church in Courtland.
     Survivors, along with her mother, include her husband, James "Jack" Miles of Courtland; two daughters, Taneille Burgess and Jamiya Burgess, both of Courtland and four brothers, James Ivy Taylor and Brad Taylor, both of Courtland, Levi Taylor of Greenville and Joe Taylor of Memphis.

COMO – Johnny W. Miller, 46, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Sanctuary Hospital in Tupelo.

     Miller was born March 19, 1960, in Batesville to the late James and Ann Earwood Weaver.
     Survivors include two daughters, Leslie V. Miller of Cleveland and Hollie L. Tippitt of Clarksdale; one son, Brandon Miller of North Augusta, S.C.; two sisters, Diane Weaver Wilkerson of Como and Cathy Weaver Tutor of Jackson; one brother, Andy Miller of Paris, Tenn. and four grandchildren.


MILLS, D.A.
     DARLING – D.A. Mills, 88, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Dr. Laurie Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
     Mills, born Aug. 22, 1917, was a member of the U.S. Army during WWII, and a member of Darling Baptist Church. He was a Mason and served as a deacon and Sunday School superintendent at Darling Baptist Church.
     Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Mills of Darling; one son, Terry Mills of Darling; two brothers, C.L. Mills of Darling and T.R. Mills of Birdie; seven sisters, Irene Tortorich and Louise Bua, both of Metairie, La., June Webb, Joan Webb, Sue Skelton and Betty Rogers, all of Utica and Sarah Shaw of Greenville and two grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

SARDIS – Lillian Mitchell, 96, died Friday, August 26, 2006, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.
     Services were Saturday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. W.O. McKinney officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Green M.B. Church Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.
     Mitchell, born July 17, 1910, to the late Robert Cleveland and the late Winnie Dandridge, was a retired nurse and a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church.
     Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews.


MITCHELL, Terry Dewayne Jr.
    
COLDWATER – Terry Dewayne Mitchell Jr., the infant son of Christy Pasley and Terry Dewayne Mitchell Sr., died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Baptist Desoto in Southaven.
     Graveside services were Thursday at Mt. Calm Cemetery in Coldwater. Rev. W.T. Reynolds officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Survivors along with his parents include his grandparents, Roy and Anita Hurt of Coldwater and Earline Mitchell of Coldwater.


MOFFATT, Robert A.    
     BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Robert A. Moffatt, 52, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J. He was the husband of Rebecca Meacham, formerly of Batesville.
     Memorial services will be 11a.m. Friday, September 22, 2006 with visitation at 10 at the Bridgewater United Methodist Church, 651 Country Club Road, Bridgewater. Private cremation was held at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville, N.J..
     Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and formerly of Westfield, Long Island and Connecticut he moved to Bridgewater over 22 years ago. He was employed as a computer scientist for over 24 years working for Bell Labs and as a consultant for Lucent Technologies, AT&T, Sun Microsystems and others. He was a member of the Bridgewater United Methodist Church. In his spare time Rob enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo and also collecting many different instruments.
     Survivors, in addition to his wife of 23 years, include his children, Amy K. and James M. Moffatt; two sisters, Anita J. Moffatt and Joni M. Seely; a brother, John P. Moffatt; his sister-in-law, Cele Meacham Carothers of Norcross, Ga.; and his father-in-law, John Meacham of Batesville.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Bridgewater United Methodist Church, The Green Knoll Rescue Squad or the Martinsville Rescue Squad.


MONFEE, Davie M. "Dave"
    
SARDIS- Davie M. "Dave" Monfee, 74, died Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Blackjack Presbyterian Church. Rev. Sarah Groh and Rev. Don Howie will officiate. Burial will be in Blackjack Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Monfee, born March 13, 1932, in Memphis to the late Davie Melvin and Susie Dusseau Monfee Sr., was a retired lieutenant for the Memphis Fire Department and Yellow Freight Lines. He was also a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army.
     Survivors include his wife, Bena Watkins Monfee of Sardis; one son, Lee Monfee of Sardis; one sister, Elizabeth Monfee White of Olive Branch; two brothers, Howard Monfee of Memphis and Martin Monfee of Donaphin, Mo.


MOONEYHAN, Thomas Leland
    
OXFORD – Thomas Leland Mooneyham, 75, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Jimmy Sockwell will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Flat Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home has charge.
     Mooneyham was a retired power plant construction superintendent who worked in foreign countries and the United States during his career. He was a member of the Wahabi Shriners, a Mason and an avid baseball fan. He was also a Baptist.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Billy Mooneyham and Mary Dale Mooneyham; one son, Ronald Scott "Scotty" Mooneyham; one brother, Howard Mooneyham and one sister, Lillie Mae Gross.
     Survivors include his wife, Billie E. Mooneyham of Oxford; one son, Kenneth Lee Mooneyham of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Kim E. Mooneyham of Hammond, La. and Lucretia J. Williams of Shiloh, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles E. Mooneyham of Oxford and Ricky Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Billie Dale Mooneyham of Oxford, Louise Wilson of Batesville, Ark. and Madgie Lee Hicks of Charlotte, N.C. and two grandchildren.

SENATOBIA – Nicholas D. Moore, 25, died Friday, April 14, 2006, on Gravelspring Road.

     Moore was a member of West Loaxahoma Church of Christ.
     Survivors include one daughter, Mia Arichan Rudd of Ohomola City, Okla.; his parents, Lee F. Moore and Doree Moore of Senatobia; one sister, Nicole LaTrecia Moore of Senatobia; one brother, Lee Kentrell Moore of Senatobia and his grandparents, Doretha Jackson of Senatobia and Waldo Frazier of Memphis.


MOORE, Ray Lynwood
     SARDIS – Ray Lynwood Moore, 73, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at his residence.
     Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sardis. Rev. Jerry Sanford and Hal Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
     Moore, born Aug. 19, 1933, to the late Benjamin H. Moore and the late Luxora Caldwell Moore, was the former fire chief of Sardis and a member of the Rotary Club and Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sardis, where he was a deacon and former Sunday School teacher. He was also a former alderman for the city of Senatobia and the city of Sardis.
     Survivors include: his wife Frances Scarberry Moore of Sardis; three daughters, Pat M. Fitch and Kim M. Locke, both of Oxford and Christy M. Ray of Pontotoc; one son, Ray L. "Chuck" Moore of Sardis; three brothers, E. Don Moore and Shelby E. Moore, both of Jackson and Virgil D. Moore of Georgia and 10 grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to the youth fund at First Baptist Church of Sardis or the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department.


MOORMAN, Bobby Darrell
    
SLEDGE- Bobby Darrell Moorman, 62, died Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Thursday at Sledge United Methodist Church. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Moorman, born June 26, 1944, in Lambert to Laverne and R.D. Moorman of Sledge, was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as Captain during Vietnam. He was also a member of Sledge United Methodist Church.
     Survivors, along with his parents, include: one sister, Sandra Moorman Hall of Crenshaw, and one brother, James Roy Moorman of Clarksdale.


MORGAN, Walter "Dub"
    
CRENSHAW- Walter "Dub" Morgan, 71, died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto in Southaven.
     Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Longtown Church of God in Longtown. Rev. Johnny Jones will officiate.      Morgan, born June 22, 1935, to the late Booker T. and Virgie Mae Morgan in Sledge, was a retired maintenance man with Federal Compress. He was a member of Springhill M.B. Church in Crenshaw where he was an usher.
     Survivors include: his wife, Georgia Morgan of Memphis; two daughters, Hildred Johnson of Memphis and Sandra Nunley of Horn Lake; two sons, Walter Morgan of Memphis and Anthony Morgan of Crenshaw; three step-daughters, Vanessa Thompson of Crenshaw, Belinda Ward of Strayhorn and Barbara Johnson of Horn Lake; four sisters, Gloria C. Williams of Crenshaw, Willie D. Stephens of Detroit, Mich., Irma Wilborn of Denver, Colo. and Bettye Pittman of Memphis; three brothers, Wardean Morgan and Eddie Morgan, both of St. Louis, Mo. and Elton Morgan of Crenshaw; one brother-in-law, James Reed of Sardis; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

SARDIS – Samuel "Sam" Lafayette Morris, 54, died Sunday, October, 15, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

     Morris, born May 1, 1952, in Batesville to the late David and Olenyearn Jones Morris, was a doctor of chiropractic. He was a member of Concord M.B. Church in Batesville and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1977-1998. He was a member of Rotary International, the Mississippi Chiropractic Association, the American Chiropractic Association and H.O.P.E. Ministries.
     Survivors include his wife, Leah Williams Morris of Sardis; two daughters, Lisa M. Burns of St. Louis, Mo. and Samantha M. Beck of Jackson; four sons, Justin L. Morris of Gulfport, Samuel L. Morris II of St. Peters, Mo., Samuel M. Morris of Greenville and Samuel L. Yeager of Frisco, Texas; three sisters, Levonzell Graham and Jewellean Thomas and Robbie Thomas, all of St. Louis; one brother, David W. Morris of St. Louis and four grandchildren.


MORRISON, Wanda Elizabeth Dover
    
OXFORD – Wanda Elizabeth Dover Morrison, 51, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford from injuries received in an automobile accident.

     Morrison, born June 17, 1954, in Marks, was a member of West Marks Baptist Church.
     Survivors include three sisters, Linda O’Neal of Marks, Brenda Parks of Olive Branch and Barbara Bailey of Oxford.

MURPHY, Barbara Ann
    
HAZLEHURST – Barbara Ann Murphy, 44, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

     Murphy, born Aug. 19, 1961, in Pope to the late Lloyd Reed and the late Clarine Ladd, was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church.
