City Court Report

Defendant, affiant sent to cool off during ‘telephone profanity’ trial

Erik Jason Perez, 374 Hunter Creek Rd., Charleston, was referred to the grand jury on charges of possession of controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and driving while license suspended. The ruling was made by Judge Bill McKenzie at Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court.

Kelley Williamson, 220 Dogwood Circle, Sardis, was also referred to grand jury for a charge of grand larceny.

Open container
Rodney O. Ladd, 1105-B Hawkins Rd., Courtland, was found guilty of open container. He had already served his time prior to court in lieu of paying a fine of $255.

Cases continued
A trial for Ben Chambers Sr., 1204 Carlisle Rd., Courtland, was continued for his DUI (other) charge and careless driving. Attorney Kirk Willingham who represented Chambers, questioned the validity of the ticket because the time and date did not appear on the defendant’s copy.

Marvin T. Smith, 6090 Staford, Southaven, had his case of petit larceny continued until next week.

Shoplifting
Teresa Ann Brooks, 214 Tubbs Rd, Apt. 14, Batesville, was fined $595 for stealing $16 worth of binders, highlighters and other items from Family Dollar.

Other cases
James Grammer of 105 E. Ash, Brinkley, Ark., paid a fine of $650 prior to court. He pled guilty to possession of paraphernalia, driving while his license was suspended and no seat belt.

Cornell Sanford, P.O. Box 2, Courtland, was fined $1,252 for driving while license suspended, improper equipment and contempt of court-old fines.

Christopher J. Whitten, 117 Hoskins Rd., Batesville, was found guilty of trespassing on property belonging to Holly and Scott French at the Vance Street Apartments. He was fined $855 and banned from the apartments.

Mary Ann Sanford Robinson, 2248 McNeely Rd., Courtland, was fined $295 for calling Abe Dean Jr. and using "telephone profanity." Both the defendant Robinson and the affiant Dean were sent to the back to cool off after arguing in front of Judge McKenzie.

Chase Corry Roberts, Farris Gravel Rd., Batesville, was fined $2,860 for contempt of court-old fines, driving while license suspended, failure to yield to blue lights, careless driving and open container.

Contempt
Orlando Webb
, 110 Williams St., Batesville, agreed to work on the city work program in lieu of paying a fine of $690 that has been due since August 2004.

Melvin D. Holmes, 212 Noble St., Batesville, will also work on the city work program in lieu of paying a fine of $385 that has been due since March 2004.

Kemp Blackmon, 226 Noble St., Batesville, also had existing fines of $835 due since December of 2004 and agreed to work on the city work program.
Tickets

Jessie Lee Jefferson, 1043 Trantham Rd., Batesville was fined $340 for driving while license suspended. Jefferson stated he was waiting on paper work from Hernando to show proof of a driver’s license. The case was continued two weeks to get the paper work straightened out.

Denise A. Webb, 206 Tubbs Rd. Apt. 35, Batesville, was fined $1,320 for no proof of insurance and no driver’s license.

Cheryl Gray, 227 Perkins Lane, Batesville, was fined $255 for open container.

Monroe Clark, 1235 A. Hawkins Rd., Courtland, was fined $495 for driving while license suspended and no proof of insurance. The "no proof of insurance" fine was reduced after Clark provided proof.
