City Court Report

Light docket prevails

Vanessa Russell, 514 Pope Water Valley Road, Pope, was referred to the grand jury on a charge of prescription forgery (three counts) in the June 1 session of Batesville Municipal Court.

Holly French, 116 Pope-Crowder Road, Pope, was also referred to the grand jury on a charge of false pretenses.

Cases dismissed
A charge of speeding against Jerry Pearson, 116 Prince Hill Rd., Oxford, was dismissed by Judge Bill McKenzie after the police officer failed to appear in court to testify.

The judge also dismissed a charge of domestic violence- simple disturbance of family filed against James Turner of 104 Jackson St., Batesville after the affiant Clea Turner failed to come to court to prosecute the case.

Cases continued
James Gaters Jr. of 3392 Curtis Rd., Batesville had his DUI-other case continued two weeks.

Other cases
Marissa Milam, 556 Jess Sanders Rd., Batesville, was fined $1,990 for shoplifting, driving while license suspended and "no proof of insurance." The fine can be reduced to $1,090 if the defendant provides proof of insurance within 60 days.

Linda Burchfield, 205 College St., Batesville, was fined $255 for dogs running loose on College St. which is a municipal ordinance violation.

Patrick Bownes, 203 James St., Batesville, was fined $255 for public drunk. He was enrolled in the city work program in lieu of paying the fine.

Pamela Deason, 218 Dettor St., Batesville, was fined $1,931 for DUI-other, leaving the scene of an accident and no proof of insurance.

Contempt
Carlton Johnson, 1223 Carlisle Rd., Courtland, was found guilty of contempt of court-old fines of $795 that had been due since April 2004. He was given 30 days to pay the fine in full or serve six months in jail.

Rodric Lee
, 228 Noble St., Batesville, was given the same opportunity to pay his existing fines of $720 within 30 days or serve six months.

Andre Middleton, 260 Greenbriar, Courtland, failed to appear for his charge of contempt of court-old fines in the amount of $648 due since March 2003.

Antonio Cox, 305 Greenhill, Sardis, was enrolled in the city work program in lieu of paying existing fines of $520.

Traffic tickets
Tracy L. Townsend, 815 CR 15, Water Valley, was fined $340 for driving while license suspended.

Petrena Gilmore, 701 Leatha Wiley, Sardis, was fined $1,055 for "no proof of insurance."
