HADORN, Robbie Lee Geeslin
     BATESVILLE–Robbie Lee Geeslin Hadorn, 68, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Delta Medical Center in Memphis.
     Services were Thursday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Sardis. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hadorn, born Sept. 1, 1936, to Calvin and Nancy Varner Geeslin, was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
     Survivors include her husband Fred Milton Hadorn of Batesville; five daughters, Carol Hadorn Ware of Grenada, Nancy Hadorn Roper, Betty Hadorn McElhaney, Brenda Hadorn Brewer, all of Batesville and Deborah Hadorn Kling of Monticello, Ark.; one son Steve M. Hadorn of Batesville; three sisters, Elsie Geeslin Hadorn of Batesville, Mildred Geeslin Kassis of Frensno, Calif. and Linda Geeslin McClure of Olive Branch; 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.


HALL, Dewey Cecil
     CRENSHAW- Dewey Cecil Hall, 56, died Friday, December 5, 2005, at his residence.
     Services were yesterday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Rev. John Parker officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Hall, born July 27, 1949, in Quitman County, was a meat cutter, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion.
     Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Dover Hall of Crenshaw; one daughter Brittney Lynn Hall of Crenshaw; one son, Christopher Glenn Hall of Crenshaw; one sister, Jo Anne Hall White of Batesville; three brothers, James "Bo" Hall, Gerald "Bean" Hall and Tim Hall, all of Crenshaw and two grandchildren.

HANCOCK, Bobbie Jean
     BATESVILLE – Services for Mrs. Bobbie Jean Hancock, 72, are today at 11 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home with interment following at Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Rusty Fair will officiate.
     Mrs. Hancock died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at her residence in Batesville.
     A housewife, she was born October 31, 1933 in Tutwiler to Mable Lucille Smith Morgan and the late Eugene Morgan of Batesville.
     In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Jan Hancock Hollenbeck of Batesville and Brenda Hancock Shook of Petal; a son James "Squeeky" Hancock of Batesville; and a sister, Linda Dianna Morgan Terry of Hornsby, Tenn.
     Mrs. Hancock was a member of Enon Baptist Church and the family asks that memorials be sent there to 7216 Dummy Line Rd., Batesville, MS 38606 or to Sardis Lake Baptist Church at 24709 Hwy. 35, Sardis, MS 38666.    


HANCOCK, Georgia Gregg
     BATESVILLE – Georgia Gregg Hancock, 78, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Baptist Memorial in Oxford.
     Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Rev. Lucian Young will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Enid. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Hancock, born Sept. 8, 1926, in Lake Village, Ark., to the late Joseph and Mamie Weeks Luttrell , was a member of the Raleigh Church of God and a retired nurses aid.
     Survivors include one daughter, Betty Gregg Putman of Sardis; five sons, W.T. Gregg and Luther Gregg, both of Florence, Jerry Gregg of Pope, Walter Gregg of Pearl and Tommy Gregg of Arkansas Pass, Texas; four sisters, Betty Luttrell Rayburn of Sardis, Sara Luttrell Swan of Marietta, Ga., Nellie Luttrell Ramberg of McHenry, Ill. and Mary Luttrell Turner of Horn Lake; four brothers, Thomas Luttrell and Wayne Luttrell, both of Enid, J.W. Luttrell of Batesville and Alpha Luttrell of Louisville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.


HANSGEN, Emily Ann
     BATESVILLE- Emily Ann Hansgen was stillborn, Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
     Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Survivors include her mother Jennifer Lynn Hansgen of Memphis; grandparents, Mark and Ann Hansgen of Memphis; great-grandparents, Beatrice Britt of Sardis, and Paul and Betty Hansgen of Sarasota, Fla.


HARDIMAN, Clarence
     BATESVILLE – Clarence Hardiman, 60, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Baptist Desoto Hospital of natural causes.
     Services were Saturday at Macedonia M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.
     Hardiman, born Dec. 5, 1944, was employed with Framed Picture Enterprises for 15 years.
     Survivors include eight sons and six daughters.


HARDY, Robbie Campbell
     SARDIS – Robbie Campbell Hardy, 74, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at her son’s residence in Booneville of heart failure.
     Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hardy, born Dec. 7, 1930, in Panola County to the late James Jefferson and Mabel Griffis Campbell, was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired beautician.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Delain H. Hardy.
     Survivors include one daughter, Judy Hardy Ledbetter of Sardis; one son, Gary W. Hardy of Booneville; three sisters, Jeffie Campbell and Betty Campbell Moore, both of Batesville and Voncille Campbell Tarver of Oxford; one brother, James Campbell of Batesville and two grandchildren.


HARRIS, Robert Lee
     CRENSHAW–Robert Lee Harris, 64, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his residence.
     Services are Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Lakeview M.B. Church. Rev. H.P. Washington will officiate. Burial will be in Askew Grove Cemetery in Longtown. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Harris, born April 5, 1941, in Longtown, to the late A.B. Harris and Ida Mangrum Anderson of Crenshaw, was a farmer and truck driver. He was also a member of Brim Chapel M.B. Church in Como.
     Survivors along with his mother include his wife Annie Harris of Crenshaw; five daughters, Janice Harris of Marion, Ark., Valerie Harris of Crenshaw, Barbara Williams of Coldwater, Heather Harris of Atlanta, Ga. and Pamela Hibbler of Como; four sons, Robert Harris Jr. and Earnest Harris, both of Crenshaw, Keith Harris of Oxford and Eric Harris of Kansas City, Kan.; four sisters, Sharon Pride of Batesville, Vonnie Echols, Mattie Fitzgerald and Nellie Pearl Windless, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Lester Harris of Como, Freddie Harris and Tommy Harris, both of Crenshaw; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


HARRIS, Willie Mack
     SARDIS – Willie Mack Harris, 42, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at The Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
     Services were yesterday at Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Sardis. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Burial was in Shiloh C.M.E. Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Harris, born Feb. 3, 1963, in Sardis to the late Mack Arthur Robinson and the late Georgia Lee Harris, was a former factory worker for Thomasville Metal Company in Como and a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.
     Survivors include one son, Jeremiah McMillian of Batesville; four sisters, Ida Harris, Mary Harris, Johnnie Mae Russell and Linda Doyle, all of Sardis and one brother Johnny Harris of Sardis.


HARTIG, Augusta
    
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  Augusta Hartig, 82, died Monday, November 7, 2005, at Southaven Health and Rehab Center.
     Services were yesterday at Moss Service Chapel. Pastor Harold Hermetz officiated. Burial was in Cullman City Cemetery. Moss – Service Funeral Home had charge.
     Hartig, born April 26, 1923, to the late Herbert Kubisch Sr. and the late Louise Luckhardt, was a homemaker.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Hartig Sr. and her son Richard Hartig Jr.
     Survivors include one daughter Babette "Barbi" Moore of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Herbert Kubisch Jr. of Andrews, N.C. and Raymond Kubisch of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchidren and one great – grandchild.


HARTIG, Richard K.
     SENATOBIA – Richard K. Hartig, 55, died Saturday, August 27, 2005, at his residence in Senatobia.
     Services were Thursday, September 1, 2005, at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como. Burial was in Cullman City Cemetery in Cullman, Ala. Rev. Sam Godfrey officiated. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.
     Hartig was a family nurse practitioner for 15 years in north Mississippi, a former major in the U.S. Army Reserves, a volunteer faculty member at The University of Tennessee Health Center and The University of Mississippi in Jackson. He was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and was very active in the Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.
     Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Anne Hartig and Elizabeth Andrea Hartig, both of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Hildegard Hartig of Senatobia; one sister, Barbi Moore of Birmingham, Ala. and one grandson.


HARTNELL, Helen Mary
    
KATY, Texas – Helen Mary Hartnell, 88, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, at Katy Hospital in Katy, Texas. She was the sister of the late Bill Bailey of Batesville.
     Services are today at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Lynn K. Parker will officiate. Visitation is today from 1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. Garner-Harper Funeral Home has charge.
     Hartnell was a retired legal secretary and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Katy, Texas. She was a resident of Grenada for 17 years.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, George Freeman Hartnell Sr. and one grandchild, Erica Snyder.
     Survivors include her son George Jr. and his wife Mary Ellen Hartnell of Bellingham, Wash.; her daughter Joy and husband John Richardson of Katy, Texas; one sister, May Whitaker of Grenada and three grandchildren, Richard Hartnell, Kelsea Hartnell and Jake Richardson. She was also the aunt of Tammy Bailey Williams, formerly of Batesville, and the great-aunt of Emily Darby Williams of Pope.


HARTSFIELD, Janie Sue
     BATESVILLE– Janie Sue Hartsfield, 93, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center. She was the mother-in-law of John Greene of Batesville.
     Services are Thursday at 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home has charge.
     Hartsfield was the widow of the late Howard Franklin Hartsfield and a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.
     Survivors along with her son-in-law include three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


HARTZELL, Jack Tolleson
     BATESVILLE– Jack Tolleson Hartzell, 83, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center from congestive heart failure.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Independence Presbyterian Church in Independence. Rev. Clifford Leroy Hartzell and Rev. Douglas Sullivan Gonzalez will officiate. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
     Hartzell, born June 30, 1921, to the late Clifford Leroy Hartzell and the late Emma Holt Hartzell, was the sixth of six children. He grew up on his father’s farm and after college and military duty as lieutenant J.G. in the Navy during WWII, he became a farmer himself. His life was the church, his family and the farm. During the course of his life he touched many lives with his quiet gentleness.
     Along with his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Paige Hartzell and Clifford Leroy Harztell Jr. and one sister Virginia Herron.
     Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Gwendolyn "Gwen" Hartzell of Batesville; four daughters, Sandra Darby and Dale Shankle both of Batesville, Georgia Craig of Laurel and Jackie Cagley of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters, Frances Sullivant of Missouri and Sara Darby of Batesville; seven grandchildren, Mari Correro, William L. Darby, Paige Whitten, Eric Estridge, Whitney L. Craige, Nicholas R.H. Cagley and Jay Estridge and seven great-grandchildren.

Harvey, Willie
     SARDIS- Willie Harvey, 72, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis of natural causes.
     Services were Wednesday at Lakeview M.B. Church in Falcon. Rev. H.P. Washington officiated. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery.
Harvey, born Feb. 28, 1932, was a security guard at Jorgensen Bennett Manufacturers.


HASKINS, Vadine Verner
     SARDIS –  Vadine Verner Haksins, 85, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at her residence.
     Services were Thursday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Union Baptist Cemetery near Sardis. Moore Funeral Home in Sardis had charge.
     Haskins, born Jan. 10, 1920, in Chalybeate, to the late Olivers P. Hobson and the late Evie Swinford Hobson, was a member of Union Baptist Church, a member of Eastern Star, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a housewife.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Esker Haskins.
     Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Moore of Sardis and Rebecca Orton of Nesbit; one son, Sammie Haskins of Covington, Tenn.; two sisters, Wanda Southern of Ellijay, Ga. and Clairce Wiley of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Dale Hobson of Meridian; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.


HATCHEL, Tracy Lynn
     GRENADA- Tracy Lynn Hatchel, 39, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford of heart failure.
     Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dale Beaver and Rev. Charles Locke officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hatchel, born March 22, 1965, in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., to the late Thomas Eugene and Deloris Ditto Briley, was a Baptist and a homemaker.
     Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. Hatchel of Grenada; her mother, Deloris Ditto Hatchel Hendrix of Coffeeville; one sister, Sondra Hatchel Beaver of Coffeeville; one niece and one nephew.


HAVENS, Fred Bonner
    
ENID – Fred Bonner Havens, 70, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at Tallahatchie County General Hospital.
     Services were Thursday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Rev. Marty Evans officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Havens, born Jan. 6, 1935, in Enid to the late Wallace Fred Havens and the late Ida Pearl Bonner Havens, was a retired farmer.
     Survivors include his wife Erma Melline Harville Havens; three sons, David Michael Havens, Kenneth Fred Havens and Tommy Wallace Havens, all of Enid; one daughter Brenda Stroup of Pope; two brothers, William Havens and Henry Havens, both of Enid and five grandchildren.


HAYS, Paula Jean
    
SARDIS – Paula Jean Hays, 57, died Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
     Survivors include her mother, Johnnie Turner of Sardis; one daughter, Heather Billingsley of Como; one son, Anthony Rosenthal of Southaven; one sister, Joyce A. Studard of Millington, Tenn.; four brothers, Gary Smith of Searcy, Ark., and Kenny Crawford, Tim Turner and Tommy Turner, all of Sardis and four grandchildren.


HEATHCOCK, Ruth
     COURTLAND–Ruth Heathcock, 86, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home has charge.
     Heathcock was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church and a retired CNA for the Sardis nursing home.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Karl Heathcock.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Embrey of Batesville and Margaret Woodruff of Marion, Ark.; two sons, Raymond Earl Heathcock of Harmontown and Russell Heathcock of Goshen, Ind.; one sister Lois Darby of Pigeon Ford, Mich.; three brothers, Ray Blackwood of Marion, Ark., Jimmy Blackwood of Middle Brouch, Ind. and Bill Blackwood of Boise, Idaho; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.


HENDERSON, Excie Herring
     CLEVELAND, Ohio – Excie Herring Henderson, 70, formerly of Courtland, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
     Services are Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Henderson, born May 12, 1935, in Courtland to the late John Wesley Herring and the late Bernena St. Claire Jackson Herring, was employed by The Cleveland Society for the Blind and a retired food service manager for Cleveland public schools. She was also a member of Everlasting Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
     Survivors include her husband William D. Henderson of Cleveland, Ohio and one brother Carl Edward Herring of Memphis, Tenn.


HENLEY, Lee Michael
    
ATHENS, Ala. –  Lee Michael Henley, 24, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, in an automobile accident in Meridian. He was the son of Beverly Milam Henley, formerly of Batesville.
     Services were yesterday at Athens First United Methodist Church. Billy Curtis, Dr. Curtis Coleman and Rev. Jimmy Bassham officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery. McConnell Funeral Home had charge.
     Henley, born Dec. 16, 1980, in Norfolk, Va., earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Mississippi in 2004. He worked for Isom’s Orchard, Macaroni Grill and the News Courier and he was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church.
     Survivors include his parents, Jessie and Beverly Henley of Athens, Ala.; his fiancee, Paige Greenhaw of Athens, Ala.; his grandfather, Melvin B. Henley of Murray, Ky.; his step-grandmother, Rita Henley of Murray, Ky. and his great-grandmothers, Ruthie Monler of Kirksey, Ky. and Ella J. Milam of Batesville.
     Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Athens, Ala.


HENLEY, Mike
    
SOUTHAVEN – Mike Henley, 53, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare in Southaven.
     Services were Wednesday at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial was in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Twin Oaks Funeral Home had charge.
     Henley was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven and a graduate of South Panola High School.
     He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Henley.
     Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Wanda Henley of Southaven; one daughter, Lisa Hart of Collierville, Tenn.; his father Claude Thomas Henley of Jackson and two brothers, Bob Henley of Las Vegas, Nev. and Harold G. Henley of Hernando.
     Memorials may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund.


HENRY, Bessie McCain
    
BATESVILLE- Bessie McCain Henry, 72, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, at her residence.
     Services were Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Henry, born March 14, 1933, to the late Ethel Columbus and the late Agnes Aline Boyette McCain, was a nurse and a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Henry.
     Survivors include her daughter Barbara Bonner and son-in-law Billy Bonner of Clarksdale; one son, Ricky Henry of Batesville; six sisters, Glenda Jefcoat and Lesa Alford, both of Batesville, Peggy Bailey of Tillatoba, Mary Harrison of Como, Sarah White of Memphis, Tenn. and Patricia Ingram of Seagoville, Texas; one brother, Mike McCain of Batesville; five grandchildren, Belinda Bonner Sink, Becky Aline Bonner, Jessica Henry, Ashley Henry and Rick Henry and one great-grandchild, Georgia Christine Sink.


HENRY, Sherrill Peyton
     SARDIS–Sherrill Peyton Henry, 80, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at his residence.
     Services were Sunday at Peach Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Caples officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Henry, born June 18, 1924, in Darling, graduated from Darling High School, was a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church, was a farmer and a longtime member of Marks Lodge.
     Survivors include his wife Bettye Jewel Henry of Sardis; one son Sonny Henry of Sardis; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


HENTZ, Vernon Glen
     POPE – Vernon Glen Hentz, 52, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at Mena Regional Medical Center in Mena, Ark.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Hentz, born July 14, 1953, to the late Shelton Ludwig and the late Joy Craig Hentz, was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and an operator for Southern Electric.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Terry Lynn Hentz.
     Survivors include four daughters, Amanda Hentz Goodwin of Oxford, Heather Diane Hentz of Pope, Brandy Lynn Arnold of Batesville and Kimberly Michelle Hentz Roberson; one son, Shelton Scott Hentz of Pope and one grandson, Darrell Glen Arnold of Batesville.


HERRON, Warren Andrew "Bub"
     BATESVILLE – Warren Andrew "Bub" Herron, 88, died Saturday, July 9, 2005.
     Services were Sunday at Batesville Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jon Burnham officiated. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Herron, born in Courtland to the late Fulton Andrew and Anna Merle Chapman Herron, was a farmer, a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church, a member of the Mississippi and the National Cattlemen’s Association, elder and deacon at Batesville Presbyterian Church and was once a member of Courtland Presbyterian Church.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Frances Carlisle Herron and two sisters, Katherine Oliver and Margaret Lee.
     Survivors include three sons, Phillip Warren Herron, Jerry Lee Herron and Harold Carlisle Herron, all of Batesville; one sister, Frances Herron Seal of Batesville; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.


HILLIARD, Barbara Jean
    
OXFORD –  Barbara Jean Hilliard, 61, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at her residence.
     Services were Thursday at New Hope M.B. Church in Oxford. Rev. Eric Wilson officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Hilliard, born Sept. 14, 1943, in Oxford to the late Frank Williams and the late Jossie Sanders, was a retired teacher’s aide for I.C.S. and a member of New Hope M.B. Church.
     Survivors include two daughters, Carol Hilliard of Oxford and Andre Smith of Milwaukee, Wis.; one son, Hewlett Hilliard Jr. of Havelock, N.C.; two sisters, Jossie Kimmons of Oxford and Frankie Taylor of Memphis, Tenn. and six grandchildren.


HILBURN, Frances Holmes Smith
    
JACKSON- Frances Holmes Smith Hilburn, 59, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
     Services were Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Burial was in Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home had charge.
     Hilburn, born Dec. 25, 1945, in Memphis, to the late H.T. and Kathryn Smith, was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and received her master’s degree from Mississippi College. For 16 years she served as the coordinator of Children’s Ministries at First Presbyterian Church. Her involvement in the community included being named to Leadership Jackson class of 2002 and she served as past regent of the Rebecca Cravat Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as State Conference chairman of the Mississippi Society of the DM. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
     Survivors include her children, Judson Carter Hilburn, Kathryn Breland Hilburn and John Holmes Hilburn, all of Jackson.
    


HINES, Parthenia Thomas
    
BATESVILLE – Parthenia Thomas Hines, 63, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
     Services are tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Concord M.B. Church in Slayden. Burial is in the church cemetery. M.J. Edwards Funeral Home has charge.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Daniel Hines.
     Survivors include two daughters, Eva Marie Dixon of Hazel Crest, Ill. and Evelyn Brown of Batesville; one son Alex McKinney of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Daisy Briggs and Geneva Pye, both of Lamar and three grandchildren.


HOBBY, Martha L.
     POPE – Martha L. Hobby, 73, died Monday, August 15, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were yesterday at Forest Hill South Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. Forest Hill Funeral Home had charge.
     Hobby was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope.
     Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Jack W. Hobby; one daughter, Jackie McCaskill of Cordova, Tenn.; two sisters, Betty Hill of West Helena, Ark. and Virginia Herrin of Cordova, Tenn. and two brothers, John Mitchell Jr. of Searcy, Ark. and James Mitchell of West Helena, Ark.


HOLDEN, Opal Pope
    
BATESVILLE- Opal Pope Holden, 77, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at her residence.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Greg Johnston, Michael Bates and Robert Rawson will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Holden, born November 29, 1928, in Independence to the late Newton A. and Dixie May Blair Pope, was a retired clerk for William’s Department Store, a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
     She was preceded in death by two brothers, Blair Pope and Wilbert Pope.
     Survivors include her husband, Howard J. Holden of Batesville; one daughter, Sue Holden Wooten of Batesville; one son, Richard Holden of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sisters, Lou Pope Shaw of Bartlett, Tenn. and Dell Pope Rushing of Coldwater; two brothers, Daniel Pope of Senatobia and Reed Pope of Coldwater; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Holley, Vicki Sayles
     BATESVILLE- Vicki Sayles Holley, 48, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, Fla. of heart failure.

     Holley, born Nov. 26, 1956, in Corning, Ark. to the late John Coy and Lillian Bernard Sayles, was a clerk and a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.
     Survivors include her husband Ronnie I. Holley of Batesville; one sister Gloria Ann Sayles File of Foley, Ala.; two brothers, Jimmy Ray Sayles and Everett Charles Sayles, both of Pope.


HOLLIDAY, Shirley Anne Coleman
    
OAKLAND – Shirley Anne Coleman Holliday, 62, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at her son’s residence.
     Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Elder Clarence "Sonny" Houston and Rev. Howard Beam officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Holliday, born Sept. 8, 1942, to the late Gaston and Ruthie Pauline Martin Coleman, was the manager of Sally’s Beauty Supply in Batesville and a member of Lambert First United Methodist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Reetius Earl Holliday.
     Survivors include one son, Jerry G. Holliday of Oakland; five sisters, Annie Lee Coleman Tarpley of Chattanooga, Tenn., Carrie Mae Coleman Doty of Courtland, Georgia Ruth Fields of Grenada, Donna Sue Coleman Fox of Pope and Linda Pauline Wolfe of Batesville; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.


HOLLINGER, Jewell Vay McClain
    
SARDIS- Jewell Vay McClain Hollinger, 65, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at North Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Tupelo.
     Graveside services were yesterday at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Hollinger, born February 25, 1940, in Water Valley to the late Vester McClain and the late Idell Potts McClain, was a homemaker.
     Survivors include her husband, James Hollinger of Sardis; two sons, Jimmy Russell Hollinger and James Hollinger, both of Sardis; one daughter, Joyce Rodgers of Sardis; one sister, Ruthie Pierce of Oxford and Faye McCormick of Oxford and five grandchildren.


HOLLOWAY, Clifton
     THORNTON, COLO.- Clifton Holloway, 27, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Aurora South Medical Center in Colorado.
     Services were Thursday at Zion A.M.E. Church. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Crowder.
Holloway was a barber.

HOLMES, Melvin David
     COURTLAND – Melvin David Holmes, 57, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at his residence.
     Services were Saturday at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial was in Eureka Cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hettie Mae Ford Holmes.
     Survivors include four daughters, Betty Holmes, Michelle Holmes and Marle Holmes, all of Dayton, Ohio, Barbara Holmes of Batesville; four sons, Jimmy Holmes, Keith Holmes, Melvin Holmes and Kelvin Holmes, all of Batesville; six sisters, Fannie Mae Thomas and Edna Bradford, both of Courtland, Earlene Sanford of Chicago, Ill., Julia Ann Robinson of Water Valley, Rosie Marie Johnson of Oxford and Blida Boston of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, Johnny Sanford of St. Louis, Mo., J.W. Sanford of Pope, Lonnie B. Sanford of Milwaukee, Wis. and Harry Wright of Batesville; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


HORNE, Milly Mae
    
COLUMBIA- Milly Mae Horne, 71, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Columbia Healthcare and Rehabilitation of heart failure.
     Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Horne, born Sept. 20, 1933, to Kate Morris Horne, was a member of First Assembly of God.
     Survivors include a host of cousins.


HOSKINS, Lomack
    
BATESVILLE – Lomack Hoskins, 72, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at his residence.
     Services were Saturday at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Rev. Nash officiated. Burial was in New Bethlehem Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.
     Hoskins, born Nov. 6, 1932, to the late Hollis and Ardelia Baker Hoskins, was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Hamilton.
     Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Crump; four daughters, Maxine Bland, Brenda A. Strong and Angie Hoskins, all of Batesville and Lavera Ballentine of Blue Island, Ill.; three sisters, Geneva Spain of Batesville, Patricia Brown of Clarksdale and Emaline Hawk of Detroit, Mich.; one brother, Harry Hoskins of Batesville; four step-sons, Leon Edwards, Lee A. Crump, Wallace Crump and Michael Crump; four step-daughters, Edith Crump, Mary Crump, Dorothy Crump and Emma Hall; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.


HOSKINS, Nina Lee
     BATESVILLE- Nina Lee Hoskins, 62, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are tomorrow at 1 p.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Visitation is prior to the service from noon until 1 p.m. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Hoskins, born Feb. 11, 1942, to the late Dave Smith and the late Ruth Bowen, was a housewife and a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church.
     Survivors include one daughter Denise H. Lloyd of Batesville; one granddaughter who cared for her LaTorie Burgess of Batesville; two sisters, Julia Green and Maggie Spears, both of Memphis; three brothers, James Smith, Willie Smith and Mose Johnson, all of Memphis and four grandchildren.


HOSKINS, Samuel Lee "Chick"
     CROWDER–Samuel Lee "Chick" Hoskins, 52, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his residence of natural causes.
     Services were Saturday at Zion A.M.E. Chapel. Rev. Allen Johnson officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Union in Crowder. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home had charge.
     Hoskins, born Aug. 8, 1952, in Quitman County, to the late Bolivar and Cleora Hoskins, was a construction worker who had been employed by Pacific Builders and Charlie Sanders before starting his own business, Samuel Hoskins Construction Company.
     Survivors include his wife Jennie C. Hoskins; three sons, Richard Hoskins of Charleston, Samuel L. Hoskins Jr. and Daniel L. Hoskins of Milwaukee, Wis.; six sisters, Ida Stanford of San Francisco, Calif., Ruthie Butler of Dixmoor, Ill., Irene Tillmon of Memphis, Tenn., Lula Grey and Myrtle Williams, both of Jackson and Rita Street of Courtland; two brothers, Wendell Hoskins of Waterloo, Iowa and David Charles Hoskins of East St. Louis, Mo. and 11 grandchildren.


HOUSTON, Larry Junior
     BATESVILLE – Larry Junior Houston, 58, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at his residence.
     Services are tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Kilgore will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
     Houston, born Sept. 1, 1946, in Marks, was a member of the Assembly of God, a member of the Batesville VFW and served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam.
     Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Griffith Houston of Batesville; one son, Larry Michael Houston of Enid; three daughters, Margaret Crawford of Grenada, Angela Grant and Devin Scott Griffith, both of Batesville; one brother, Billy Houston Jr. of Enid; three sisters, Willie Houston Havens of Tillatoba, Dorothy Jackson of Texas and Betty Houston Rogers of Enid and six grandchildren.


HOWELL, Ollie Baker
    
POPE – Ollie Baker Howell, 89, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at her residence. She was the widow of Burtrum Hy Howell.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. Ricky Cook and Rev. Linnie Maples will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Howell was born April 30, 1916, to the late Benjamin Frank and the late Fannie Mae Hansell Baker in Panola County. She was a member of the Friendship Church of God in Charleston.
     Survivors include four daughters, Geneva Howell Buntin of Batesville, Vontice Howell Lambert, Patricia Howell Tigner and Diane Howell Sanford, all of Pope; one son Jamie Howell of Batesville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
     Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill Cemetery or Friendship Church of God in Charleston.


HOWZE, Henry LeGrande III
     SLEDGE – Henry LeGrande Howze III, 84, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at his residence of heart failure.
     Services were yesterday at Sledge United Methodist Church. Rev. Edd Spencer officiated. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Howze, born Feb. 21, 1921, graduated from Mississippi State University and was member of Sledge United Methodist Church where he was chairman of the Board and also the teasurer. He was a Charter member and past president of North Delta School. He was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
     Survivors include his wife Adair Howze of Sledge; four daughters, Laura Lee Apperson of Memphis, Tenn., Henrietta Matthews of Beavercreek, Ohio, Alice Martin of Florence, Ala. and Betty Lynn Freeman of Jackson; and nine grandchildren.

HOUSE, Gracie P.
     OAKLAND – Gracie P. House, 81, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
     Services were Wednesday at Philadelphia M.B. Church in Oakland. Rev. B. Brooks officiated. Burial was in Philadelphia Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     House, born June 9, 1924, in Oakland to the late Wiley Woodall and the late Ozella Harris, was a homemaker and a member of Philadelphia M.B. Church in Oakland.
     Survivors include two daughters, Jannie Lee Exson of Oakland and Odessa Johnson of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Lee House and J.B. House, both of Oakland and Hubert House Jr. of Water Valley; two brothers, Lagham Woodall of Memphis, Tenn. and William Woodall of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Eva Loving of Arkansas, Mary Marshall and Lela Gilliams, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren.


HUDSON, Mildred Louise Williams
     BATESVILLE — Mildred Louise Williams Hudson, 77, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston of heart failure.
     Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hudson, born May 6, 1927, to the late Eli and Zylphia Bishop Williams of Ruleville, was the retired store owner of Hudson Grocery in Batesville, was presently a member of New Wine Fellowship Church in Houston, but had been a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church of Batesville. She was also known as an excellent seamstress.
     She was preceded in death by her husbands James Curtis Hudson and Ewell Hudson and six sisters.
     Survivors include one daughter Debbie Hudson West of Houston, three nieces and a host of cousins.


HUGHES, John Norman
     COMO–John Norman Hughes, 57, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Wednesday at C.O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial was in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Forest South Funeral Home had charge.
     Hughes was a member of Harmontown Baptist Church, a retired truck driver, a graduate of Messick High School and a graduate of Mississippi State University.
     He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Faye Hughes.
     Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Hughes Gossett and Jessica Erin Hughes, both of Oxford and one son Chris Hughes of Senatobia; his mother, Virginia B. Hughes.


HURT, Willie Lee
     BATESVILLE- Willie Lee Hurt, 73, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Evia M.B. Church. Rev. Arthur Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Hurt, born Sept. 1, 1931, to the late Esper Lee Hurt and the late Queen Esther Menzie, was a carpenter.
     Survivors include one sister Mary Lue Hill of Batesville; his step-mother, Bennella Hurt of Memphis; three sons, Willie L. Hurt Jr. of Danville, Ill., Jimmy Torrence and John Torrence, both of St. Paul, Minn.; four daughters, Latisha Forbes and Jeri Torrence, both of St. Louis, Mo., Jennella Brown and Jenneth Torrence, both of Urbana, Ill.; three brothers, Bennie C. Hurt, E.L. Hurt and Albert Hurt, all of Memphis; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


HUTCHINS, Joshua Lee
     WATER VALLY– Joshua Lee Hutchins was stillborn Friday, March 25, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Graveside services are today at 10 a.m. at Orwood Cemetery in Batesville. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Survivors include his parents Lee and Candi Hutchins of Water Valley; grandparents Johnny and Deria Hutchins, both of Oxford and Martha Carothers of Water Valley and his great-grandmother Ludie Hutchins of Oxford.


HYDE, Robert A.
     BATESVILLE–Robert A. Hyde, 74, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Thursday at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Hyde, born June 26, 1930, in Pontotoc, to the late Isaac and Agnes Payne Hyde, was a retired principal and educator for Panola and Pontotoc County School systems. He was a U.S. Army corporal veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955 and was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.
     He was a member of the Mississippi Retired Teachers Association, the Mississippi Association of Educators, the National Education Association, the Community Relation Counsel, Garfield Lodge #61, the Municipal Democratic Executive Committee and American Legion Post #249. He was also instructor of the Sardis District Congress of Christian Education.
     Survivors include his wife Cathryn M. Hyde of Batesville; two sons, Michael Hyde of Chesapeake, Va. and Terry Foster of Chicago, Ill.; one brother Tuinton Odell Hyde of Beliot, Wis.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
