Bailey, Harold E.
Harold E. Bailey, 79, of Oakland, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Bailey, born May 5, 1925, to the late Stonewall Jackson and the late Retha Lee Vowell Bailey, was a retired factory worker, a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of Pope Baptist Church.

Services were Monday at Pope Baptist Church. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Mildred Thomas Bailey of Oakland; three daughters, Glinda Bailey of Memphis, Tenn., Dianne Bailey Lambert of Marks and Jackie Bailey Hernandez of Batesville; two step-daughters, Evelyn Thomas Elliott and Linda Thomas Oakes, both of Oakland; three step-sons, Charles Thomas of Columbus, David Thomas of Oakland and James Thomas of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Evelyn Bailey Rose of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; three brothers, Jack Bailey of Crowder, Cecil Bailey and Larry Bailey, both of Batesville; four grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.


Bailey, Jacqueline Bland
Jacqueline Bland Bailey, 71, of Batesville, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at her son’s residence.

Services were Monday at Locke Station Baptist Church in Batesville. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Eugene Howell officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Bailey, born Nov. 21, 1932, to the late Allen Smith Bland and Gemell Burchfield Bland, was a homemaker and a member of Locke Station Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband James W. Bailey of Locke Station; four sons, Jimmy Dale Bailey and Randy Lee Bailey, both of Courtland, James Roy Bailey of Marks and Reggie Don Bailey of Senatobia; six sisters, Elouise Williams and Mary Nell Rosemond, both of Batesville, Helen Griffin of Marks, Glenda Bland of Crowder, Lois Daniels of Bartlett, Tenn. and Betty Ann Sanders of Munford, Tenn.; two brothers, William Bland and Lewis Bland, both of Sledge; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bailey, John Thomas
John Thomas Bailey, 53, formerly of Sardis, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

Memorial services were Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Moore Funeral Home. Rev. Ray Legge officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Bailey, born July 23, 1950, to the late James Bailey and Edith Jackson Bailey, was a Baptist and a self-employed house painter.

Survivors include his caregiver Phyllis Robinson of Olive Branch; two daughters, Jill Cavender of Conway, Ark. and Brooke Johnson of Cabot, Ark.; one son Brian Bailey of Collierville, Tenn. his mother Edith Bailey of Batesville; one brother Bobby Bailey of Sardis; and four grandchildren.

Baker, Alvie Sanders
Pope, Miss.
Alvie Sanders Baker, 90, of Pope, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. David Waits officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Baker, born Nov. 29, 1913, to the late William Alexander and Emma Crowder Sanders, was a homemaker and a member of The Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Carolyn Kilgore of Holcomb; and one grandchild.

All memorials may be made to Chapel Hill Cemetery Fund. She was preceded in death by her husband Odie Baker.

Roosevelt Banks Jr., of Sardis, died Monday, August 16, 2004, at his residence.

Services are Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Percyville Church of Christ in Sardis. Burial will be at Mt. Level Cemetery in Como. Brother Sam Curry will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Banks, born Sept. 25, 1958, to the late Roosevelt Banks Sr. and the late Christine Davis Banks, was a supervisor for Pro Pack and National Guardman, a member of the Percyville Church of Christ and active in Det. 1, HHC, 2/198th AR. BN.

Survivors include his wife Caroline Banks of Sardis; four sons, Shun Banks of Memphis, Tenn., Cedric Lloyd and Nicholas Jones, both of Como and Montrale Pegues of Senatobia; one daughter Auynna L. Jackson of Sardis, William Banks Sr. of Memphis, Tenn., John H. Banks and Joe Junior Banks, both of Sardis; five sisters, Mary Ann Clay of Sardis Mattie Ferguson of Memphis, Tenn., Herdia Henderson of Sardis, Sally Davis of Sardis and Susie Davis of Holly Springs and seven grandchildren.

Lavelle Galloway Barber, 52, of Sarah, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis of heart failure.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Strayhorn Baptist Church in Strayhorn. Burial is in Truslow Cemetery in Sarah. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Barber, born May 10, 1952, in Elaine, Ark. to the late Harold and the late Laura Mae Conaway Galloway, was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband John Wayne Barber of Sarah; two daughters, Margaret Self Frazier of Crenshaw and Pauline Self Hudspeth of Dundee; one son John Henry Self of Senatobia; three brothers, Wayne Galloway of Humbolt, Tenn., Dale Galloway of Halls, Tenn. and Herman Galloway of Longtown; and nine grandchildren.

Elizabeth Pearl Faust Barnes, 71, of Marks, died Tuesday, May 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Tuesday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Rev. James Tidwell officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Barnes, born Nov. 22, 1932, was a member of First Baptist Church in Marks and a retired florist.

Survivors include one son Dale Barnes Jr. of El Paso, Texas; one daughter Genie Collier of Courtland; two brothers, Gene Faust Jr. of Lambert and Billy Faust of Marks; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.


Barnes, John Thomas Jr.
John Thomas Barnes Jr., 61, of Hephzibah, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Eisenhower Hospital in Fort Gordon, Ga. of heart failure.

Graveside services are Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Memorial Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Billy Carroll of Hephzibah, Ga. will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Barnes, born Mar. 20, 1942, to Gladys Mae Tedford and the late John Thomas Barnes Sr., was an officer with the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety and a retiree of U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife Mary E. Bevell Barnes of Hephzibah, Ga.; two daughters, Angela Barnes Drew of San Antonio, Texas and Shelley Barnes Rosier of Clarkesville, Tenn.; his mother Gladys Mae Tedford Barnes of Batesville; four brothers, Larry Barnes of Iowa, Jimmy Barnes and Dean Barnes, both of Batesville and Billy Barnes of Macon, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.


Barr, Mavis Reed
Mavis Reed Barr, 82, of Batesville, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Barr, born July 1, 1922, to the late Josh and Mary Lou Matthew Reed, was a retired restaurant owner and cook and a member of West Camp M.B. Church.

Services were Saturday at West Camp M.B. Church. Burial was in West Camp Cemetery. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Survivors include one daughter Martha R. Dean of Batesville; three sons, Willie O. Reed of Batesville, Elbert Barr of Oakland, Calif. and Lamar Reed of Chicago, Ill.; one sister Nettie R. Hubbard of Memphis, Tenn.; one grandson whom she raised, Kendrick Roydell Barr and a granddaughter she raised, Sonia Robinson, both of Batesville; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.


Barshinger, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth Barshinger, 59, of Southaven, died Sunday, September 19, 2004, at Methodist Germantown Hospital in Memphis.

Barshinger was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Graveside services were Thursday at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial was in Oak Grove Church of Christ Cemetery in Dukedom, Tenn. Twin Oaks Funeral Home had charge.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leander Nelson and Mary Roberts; two sisters, Sarah Walker and Heather Powell and three brothers, Jimmy Lee Nelson, Lopez Nelson and Franklin Nelson.

Survivors include her husband Jim Barshinger of Southaven; one daughter Christine Goodnight of Sardis; one son Jeffrey Allen Barshinger of Horn Lake and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Wings Division of the West Clinic in Memphis, Tenn.


Bates, Bennie Boyce
Sardis, Miss.

Bennie Boyce Bates, 85, of Sardis, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, N.C.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Graveside services were Thursday at City Cemetery in Red Bay, Ala. Rev. Jim Cox and Rev. Doyce Gunter officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Bates, born to the late Bennie Thomas Bates and Zelma Hester Bates, was retired from Rural Industries as director for the state of Alabama. He was known in his community as a master craftsman.

Survivors include his wife Maurine Alverson Bates; one daughter Donna Bates Wilson; one son Jan B. Bates; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sardis United Methodist Church.


Beard, Charles L.
Charles L. Beard, 73, of Courtland, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at his residence of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Courtland Baptist Church. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Beard, born Aug. 22, 1930, to the late John Henry and the late Eddie Mae White Beard, was a retired factory employee of Dunlap & Kyle and a member of Courtland Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Weeks Beard of Courtland; one daughter Connie Sue Beard Pennington of Courtland; one son Charles Daniel Beard of Courtland; three sisters, Virginia Beard Gray of Batesville, Mary Frances Beard Hutchens of Oxford and Faye Beard Bradley of Senatobia; four brothers, J.W. Beard of Courtland, Robert Beard of Batesville, Douglas Beard of Batesville and Thomas Beard of Montemorelos, Mexico; and three granddaughters.

Harry Lee Beard, 54, of Water Valley, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Panola County.

Services were Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Seven Oakes Funeral Home Chapel in Water Valley. Burial was at the First United Pentecostal Cemetery in Water Valley. Bro. John Ford officiated. Seven Oakes Funeral Home had charge.

Beard, born Aug. 18, 1949, was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Water Valley.
Survivors include his wife Janie Beard of Water Valley; one daughter Melinda Whitehorn of Batesville; two brothers, J.B. Beard of Edmonton, Ky. and William Beard of Water Valley; one sister Lucy Mae Hendricks of Water Valley; and three grandchildren.


Beaver, Naomi Rodgers
Naomi Rodgers Beaver, 62, of Batesville, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford of heart failure.

Beaver, born Jan. 5, 1942, to the late Charlie and Lucille Walls Rodgers, was a clerk for Williams Department Store.

Services were Monday at Goodwill Church of God. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Hill officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Beaver.

Survivors include one daughter, Tammy Beaver Powell of Batesville; two sisters, Virginia Rodgers Richardson and Ruth Rodgers Waddell, both of Marks and one granddaughter.


Bell, Marie Nelson
Marie Nelson Bell, 83, of Batesville, died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia.

Bell, born April 4, 1921, to the late Garland G. and Audrey Rowsey Nelson, was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church.

Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Clay Baker officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Prentiss Bell.

Survivors include two daughters, Agnes Bell Barnett of Courtland and Margaret Bell Mayo of Southaven; one sister Katie Lee Nelson Bell of Germantown, Tenn.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Louis Belvin, 39, of Batesville, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Belvin, born June 16, 1964, to Gerald and Edna Booth Belvin, was a self-employed construction worker.

Survivors include one son Brice Holden Belvin of Batesville; his father and step-mother, Gerald and Wanda Belvin, both of Oxford; his mother Edna Booth Scroggins of Leakesville; one sister Cathryn Tracie Belvin of Water Valley; one brother Jerry Jay Belvin of Olive Branch; and grandparents, Joshep and Catherine Woodard of Batesville.

Kelley Benson, 71, of Pope, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, of at his residence.

     Benson, born Dec. 6, 1933, to the late Jasper and Margie Murphy Benson, was a member of Pope United Methodist Church, was a farmer, cattleman and merchant. He also was a Korean War Veteran serving his country in the army.
     Survivors include: Gay Nell Bright Benson of Pope; one daughter Deborah Benson Duncan of Charleston; one son Kelley "Bubba" Benson Jr. of Pope; one brother Ben Benson of Pope and five grandchildren


Berry, Michael Wayne
Michael Wayne Berry, 45, of Sardis, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Monday at Moore Funeral Home in Sardis. Burial was in Cherry Creek Baptist Cemetery in Ecru. Mr. Hal Johnson and Rev. James Lewis officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Berry, born March 20, 1959, born to Carl and Helen Doherty Berry, was a physical therapist for Tupelo Hospital.

Survivors include his father Carl Berry of Batesville; one sister Brenda Carlene Berry of Sardis; and two brothers, Danny Berry of Sardis and Jerry Berry of Horn Lake.


Best, Bobby Ray "Bob" Sr.
Bobby Ray "Bob" Best Sr., 65, of Oakland, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at North East Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, of heart failure.

Best, born April 22, 1939, to the late Luther and Josie Mae Darby Best, was the owner of Best Quality Roofing and Remodeling Company and an Air Force Veteran.

Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Enid. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Best Smallwood and Bonita Best Herrington, both of Oakland and Linda Faye Best of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Bobby Ray Best Jr. of Oakland and Stacy Christopher Best of Enid; one sister Bettye Kaye Best of Oxford and seven grandchildren.


Bethel, Cassandra
Cassandra Bethel, 41, of Sardis, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Baptist East of cancer.

Services were Sunday at Braham Chapel. Burial was at Braham Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Mack Taylor officiated. Delta Burial of Marks had charge.

Bethel, born Nov. 20, 1962, graduated from Jacksonville High School and Carbondale College. She was a nursing student and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents Elvin Bethel and Sallie Bethel, both of Sardis and three brothers, Elvin Bethel Jr. of Oklahoma, Garrett Bethel of California and James Bethel of Sardis.


Bevell, Mary Laurene Ruth
Mary Laurene Ruth Bevell, 68, of Marks, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Wednesday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Rev. Charlie Simmons officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Bevell, born Oct. 20, 1936 in Memphis, was a member of Lambert United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Liles of Marks and Diane Carpenter of Copperas Cove, Texas; one sister Judy Cox of Dermopolis, Ala. and four grandchildren.


Birge, Dexter T.
Dexter T. Birge, 28, of Como, died Monday, March 29, 2004.

Services are Saturday at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Birge was a member of Simon Chapel #2 Church and a store manager.

Survivors include one son Aleric Jones Birge of Horn Lake; his parents, Robert and Dorothy Birge of Como; six sisters, Shelia S. Stitts of Alsip, Ill., Shunnan R. Richardson of Senatobia, Evette Butler Mister of Batesville, Debbi S. Birge of Como, Kimberly Peagues of Sardis and Sharon Montgomery of Chicago, Ill.; and grandfather R.B. Rogers of Memphis.


Blakely, Margaret Lavelle

Margaret Lavelle Blakely, 93, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Blakely, born Sept. 26, 1911, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Beale, was a sewing machine operator at Sardis Luggage Company for 23 years and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Services were Thursday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Jim Cox officiated. Moore Funeral Home in Sardis had charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon D. Blakely.

She is survived by her daughter Lynda Blakely Bowman of Houston, Texas.


Blakely, Robert Wesley "Bob" Sr.
Robert Wesley "Bob" Blakely Sr., 68, formerly of Sardis, died Saturday, September 18, 2004.

Blakely was a retired electrical instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, was an Air Force Veteran, Troop Master for the Boy Scouts, formerly worked for Firestone Tire in Memphis for 15 years and was an Episcopalian.

Services were Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert "Bobby" Wesley Blakely Jr.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Hagar Blakely of Ocean Spring, Md.; two daughters, Angela C. Blakely of Santa Fe, Texas and Leslie B. Cooley of Picayune; two sons, Fredrick Eugene Blakely of Ocean Springs and Christopher Herbert Blakely of Niagara Falls, Canada; two sisters, Dorothy B. Harris of Southaven and Pat J. Blakely of Sardis and four grandchildren.

Ralph Bland, 53, of Marks, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Friday at First United Pentecostal Church in Marks. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Harold Smith officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Bland, born March 3, 1951, was a farmer and a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include seven sisters, Eloise Williams of Batesville, Mary Nell Bland of Coles Point, Linda Bland of Crowder, Helen Bell and Jacqueline Bailey, both of Marks, Lois Daniels and Betty Ann Sanders, both of Memphis; and two brothers, William Bland and Louis Bland, both of Sledge.


Block, Henry Louis Jr.
Batesville, Miss.

Henry Louis Block Jr., 93, of Batesville, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville of heart failure.

Block, born March 14, 1911, to the late Henry Louis and Ida Ruffle Block Sr., was a retired salesman.

Graveside services are today at 11:30 a.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara B. Block.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Block Baker of Pope and Mary Block Guild of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother Raymond Block of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Terry James Bobo, 40, of Sardis, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, of smoke inhalation.

Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 31 at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Melvin Dandridge will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Bobo, born Feb. 28, 1963, to Jessie B. Orr and Ruby J. Pride, was a construction worker for Tabor Brothers Construction and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors include his parents, Ruby J. Pride and Jessie B. Orr, both of Sardis; one daughter Cecilia Deshay of Senatobia; four sisters, Linda Faye Campbell and Sonya L. Ware, both of Sardis, Ann Armstead of Batesville and Catherine Hill of Memphis; three brothers, Clifton J. Campbell of Sardis, Henry Pride of Oxford and Charles Orr; and his grandmother Gladys Bobo of Sardis.


Bolen, Vivian Bounds
Vivian Bounds Bolen, 82, of Crowder, died Thursday, September 16, 2004, at Methodist University Hospital Central in Memphis, Tenn. of heart failure.

Bolen, born Oct. 17, 1922, to the late Edgar and Frankie Whittle Bounds, was a member of Crowder Baptist Church and retired from Postmistress from Parchman Penitentiary.

Graveside services were Saturday at Crowder Cemetery. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include two sons, Allen G. Bolen of Bartlett, Tenn. and Rod C. Bolen of Arlington, Tenn. and one sister Lillian Bounds Moore of Marks.


Boothe, Rev. Jimmy A. "Jig"
Rev. Jimmy A. "Jig" Boothe, 67, of Batesville, died Friday, August 6, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Burial was at New Bethlehem Cemetery. Rev. Walter L. Nash Sr. officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home had charge.

Boothe, born Jan. 18, 1937, was a member of the New Bethlehem M.B. Church and was on the Sardis District Association executive board.

Survivors include his wife Cora Boothe; two sons, Troy Johnson of Batesville and Pvt. Kedran Boothe of Fort Sill, Okla.; two sisters, Bettye Cargo of Chicago, Ill. and Bevelet Leggins of Jackson; one brother Robert Boothe of Batesville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert Boothe, 56, of Batesville, died Friday, August 27, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Boothe, born Jan. 6, 1948, to the late Amos Zack Boothe and the late Annie Joiner Boothe, was a retired chef for the Panola County Country Club and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.

Services were Thursday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Burial was at Mt. Gillion Cemetery. Rev. Walter Newson Jr. officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Survivors include one daughter Sherrell Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.; one son Jarvis Dungeon of Vicksburg; two sisters, Bevlet Liggins of Jackson and Betty Cargo of Chicago, Ill. and his nephew who cared for him, Eric Martin of Batesville.


Bopp, Charles Willliam "Bill" Jr.
Charles William "Bill" Bopp Jr., 74, of Lambert, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Baptist Hospital North in Oxford.

Bopp, born May 26, 1930, attended West Marks Baptist Church, was a retired pilot, a Mason and a Shriner.

Services were Friday, Nov. 12, at West Marks Baptist Church. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Rev. Tim Mims officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Juanita Bopp of Lambert; one son Tommy Wells of Jackson; one daughter Lenora West of Batesville; two grandchildren, McKenzie West and William Mitchell West and several nieces and nephews from Grove City, Pa.

Bouchillon, Charles Wesley Ph.D.
Charles Wesley "Bush" Bouchillon Ph.D., 73, died Monday September 13, 2004, at Oktibbeha County Hospital.

Services were Thursday, September 16, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Starkville Funeral Home had charge.

Bouchillon was born in Louisville, Miss. on July 17, 1931, to the late Milton M. and Clara Dempsey Bouchillon. He graduated Louisville High School as "Student of the Year" in 1949 and graduated Mississippi State College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation from State, Bush served his country as 1st Lieutenant in the Army, during which time he served in the Korean War. Following his service in the U.S. Army, Bush went to graduate school at Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his Masters and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering in 1962.

He began his career at MSU in 1962, where he became a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He also worked with the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. During a long and impressive tenure as Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Bush worked with the NASA Research Center during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was a member of several professional societies, including: American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), and Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI). He retired from MSU in 1995.

Outside of his career at MSU, Bush was a successful entrepreneur, beginning with consulting at Combustion Engineering Bauer, from which he became a founding partner in FluidQuip, Inc. of Springfield, Ohio. He also received several patents for his work in fluid separation technology.

Bush was well known for his love of family, church, and community. He was a long-time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was active on numerous boards and committees. Bush’s love of singing was well known in the community, where he participated in Men for the Master, a nondenominational men’s choir.

Bush was a member of the Local Lions Club, the Starkville Emmaus Community, and a close, lifelong group of friends known as the "SCARS."

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Bouchillon.

Survivors include one daughter Leslie Bouchillon Salzmann of Birmingham, Ala. and her husband John and children John Carey and Sarah; three sons C. Ruston Bouchillon of Starkville and his wife Sheree and children Gray and Terry Silva and Babs, M. Scott Bouchillon of Alpharetta, Ga. and his wife Ginny and children Kerry and Charles, and David D. Bouchillon of Atlanta, Ga. and his wife Jill and son Drew; one brother Milton Bouchillon and his wife Mary Ann of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Maxine Milam of Curtis Station and Hettie Burnett and her husband Billy of Batesville and on sister-in-law Harriet.

Elizabeth Ann O’Neal Boyd, 67, of Southaven, died Saturday , July 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services are today at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Sardis. Twin Oakes Funeral Home has charge.

Boyd was a retired teacher for Walls Elementary School and a member of New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one daughter Tricia Thompson of Canton, Mich.; two sons, Glenn Boyd of Southaven and Mark Boyd of Senatobia; one sister Peggy O’Neal Young of Southaven; one brother Rob O’Neal of Nashville; and six grandchildren.

Lillian Dale Alford Boyles, 81, of Water Valley, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Graveside services are today at Friendship Cemetery in Como. Rev. Avant will officiate. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Boyles, born March 7, 1923, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Alford, was a housewife and a Baptist.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharron Jundi of Springs, Texas; five sons, Dean Boyles and George Boyles, both of Water Valley, Johnny Boyles of Glenview, Mo., David Boyles of Coldwater and Jeff Boyles of Cedar Town, Ga.; one brother Jim Alford of Gulfport; and 12 grandchildren.


Brame, Olivia
Word has been received of the death of Miss Olivia Elizabeth Brame, age 83, of Covington, Virginia, on Sunday, Jan. 18. The cause of death was respiratory failure.

Miss Brame was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She received her master’s degree from the University of Mississippi in English and Library Science. She was employed part-time with McGraw-Hill Publishing Company and the University of Virginia, where she taught English to foreign students.

Miss Brame is survived by a sister-in-law Ann Whitten Brame and her niece Elizabeth Brame Byrd and her family all of Batesville; her nephew Wesley Whitten Brame of Memphis; and by her adopted sister Mary Jane Luke of Covington, Va.

Miss Brame was preceded in death by her brother Julius de Yampert Brame Jr. and her mother Vannie Blair Brame.

An Episcopal memorial service will be conducted at a later date, to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to an animal protection agency of the giver’s choice.

Dorothy "Dot" Jean Nevil Brasel, 67, of Batesville died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Brasel, born July 24, 1937, to the late Grace Louise and Early Brown Nevil, was a retired teaching assistant, a member of The First Baptist Church, member of W.M.U., Keenagers and a member of the Beverly Lee Sunday School Class.

Services were Saturday at The First Baptist Church Lee Chapel. Rev. Doug Gregg Johnston, Rev. Doug Pepper and Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Brassell, born Dec. 5, 1916, was a member of Lambert Methodist Church and a retired farmer.

Charles L. Bright, 75, of Courtland, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at his residence of heart failure.

Bright, born May 28, 1928, to the late Hugh Maurice and the late Maggie Mae Land Bright, was a retired truck driver and a member or Terza United Methodist Church.

Saundra Hannah Britnell, 66, of Granbury, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at her residence.

Britnell, born Dec. 18, 1937, was retired from Southwestern Bell Corpora-tion, where she was a
secretary with a 30 year record of perfect attendance.

Brooks, born July 30, 1946, to the late George W. Brooks and the late Ruby L. Moore, attended Panola County schools, was in construction and was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church in Senatobia.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Dalton Brower.

Brown, born Aug. 24, 1914 in Lafayette County, to the late Green T. and the late Lilia Newson Shaw, was a member of Pope Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband Taylor Milton Brown.

Brown, born Oct. 16, 1919, to the late C.B. Hope and Maudie Arnold Hope, was a member of Union Baptist Church, a housewife and a mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband Audrey Brown.

Ola Mae Brown, 78, of Harmontown, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, in Tupelo.

Brown was retired from Carter Manufacturing in Senatobia and a member of Laws Hill Church of Christ for over 50 years.

Browning, a retired factory worker, was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, but attended College Hill Heights Baptist Church for the past several years.

Survivors include one son Grady "Pete" Browning Jr. of Oxford; one brother Tracy Perkins of Batesville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Grady Browning Sr. and one grandson Grady Scott Browning. All memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Buford was a retired carpenter and a member of Springfield M.B. Church.

Norma Elaine Burnham, 78, of Oxford, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Templeton, Mass. Rev. Jimmy Sockwell officiated. Waller Funeral Home had charge.

Burnham, a retired ITT American Electric Credit Manager, was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Oxford and a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of R.S.V.P. and worked with the Literacy Program and The Pantry in Lafayette County.

Survivors include two daughters, Shelia E. Gall of Oxford and Peggy Tidwell of Columbia, Tenn.; one son Steven C. Burnham of Summerville, Ohio; three sisters, Eleanor Burnham of Essex Junction, Vt., Phylis Kliskey of North Bennington, Vt. and Lois Charles of Fort Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Burnham.

Burton, born June 12, 1952, was a private investigator.

Eddie D. Byers, 84, of Sardis, died Tuesday, Jan.13, 2004, at The Med in Memphis of heart disease.

Byers, born Sept. 18, 1919, to the late Grant Kirkendoll and the late Annie M. Byers, was a public worker and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Byers of Sardis; one daughter Ella J. Brooks of Memphis; four sons, Eddie J. Byers and Willie Byers, both of Sardis, John A. Byers of Memphis and Charles Byers of Maryland, Va.; four sisters, Bertha Madison and Lucille Ward, both of Sardis, Nette’e M. Byars, Joe Randolph Sr.
Joe Randolph Byars Sr., 79, of Batesville died Monday, Sept. 29, 2004, at his residence.

Byars, born June 10, 1925, was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a retired Mississippi Highway Patrolman. He served the Mississippi Highway Patrol from 1951-1984. He was a U.S. Marine during WWII, a 3rd degree Mason and a member of the Retired Troopers Association.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Marks, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. Burial is in Marks Cemetery. Rev. Robert A. Hickey will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
