Ole Miss needs to ring cowbells
COMMENTARY BY MYRA BEAN SPORTS EDITOR That Ole Miss over Florida win was worthy of cowbells.
Now, Mississippi State alumni, fans and students, don’t get mad.
I am a MSU alumnus myself, but because of my job, I get a chance to see both teams play. Mainly because we have hometown players on all these college teams, I get media passes.
So, it’s hard not to get involved in the hype of the team you get a chance to cover.
Believe me, it is an honor and a privilege to cover Ole Miss ball. I will probably be talking a little differently come Eggbowl time, but that’s for later.
Now, back to cowbells at Ole Miss.
Granted, they would want to put Colonel Reb in the spot which is reserved for Bully.
But to tag Florida when you just hope to emerge with a good showing?
That was a win worthy of some noise.
Many of you have not heard the cowbells in Davis Wade Stadium at State. The sound will bring goosebumps to your arms. Ringing the cowbells at the games is as much of part of MSU as the game itself.
I was in the seats during the second half of the Rebels/Gators game.
I worked on the field the first half and Angie Ledbetter worked on the field the second half. I was behind this guy who was shaking his keys.
How lame!!
Imagine the look on my face as I looked at him like he was crazy.
I told Jamie Ledbetter right then that Ole Miss needed cowbells.
I know what you Bulldogs are thinking. I know that Rebels will never be able to shake them like Bulldogs, but this was one time they needed to learn.
Since the Rebels knocked off Florida, we are expecting really big things with Arkansas, Auburn, LSU and Georgia.
(You see I left off MSU, right?) I know where my loyalties lie.
Beating Georgia is Eddie Strong’s goal before he leaves Ole Miss. Since this is his last season there, he needs everybody behind him to see that goal come to pass.
Ringing cowbells between the hedges would be the icing on the cake.
If you agree, ring it.
See you on the sidelines… |
