SP’s new defensive back coach
BATESVILLE – With the hiring of Trenell Edwards as defensive back coach and veteran coach Willis Wright as defensive coordinator, South Panola has filled its vacant coaching spots.

Edwards hails from Louisville after a one year stint as the quarterback / running back coach. He is originally from Philadelphia, Miss.


City League Champs
The Butler Trucking team celebrated as the overall city league champions after a 70-58 defeat of Stewart Manor, Thursday, February 28. Butler Trucking finished the regular season with a 9-2 record.

Earning the title of strongest men in the North Delta Lift-A-Thon in the high school category were (l to r) Dallas Allgood, overall champion with 1,255 pounds and Rocky Reed. Reed set the school’s all time bench record with 460 pounds.

Earning the title of strongest men in the North Delta Lift-A-Thon in the junior high school category were (l to r) seventh grader Hunter Bailey, who squatted 265 pounds and Will Palmertree. Palmertree was the overall eighth and ninth grade winner with 1,030 pounds. Palmertree won all the competitions in his category incline, clang, bench and squat. Not pictured is Cody Edlin, overall seventh grader winner, with 545 pounds


Townsend renegotiates NFL contract
March 1 marked the beginning of the free agency signing period in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steeler DeShea Townsend’s four-year contract is up this year.

Townsend, a native of Batesville, is in negotiations at this point. He said in an earlier printed statement he would not mind going to another team where he can start as a corner back.
