Lady Tigers win district championship

SOUTHAVEN – The South Panola Lady Tigers took the district championship from the Horn Lake Lady Eagles for the second straight year.

The Lady Tigers and Horn Lake have been scrapping all year. Friday night, February 15, the Lady Tigers regained the lead and took the game 60-47.

The Lady Tigers defeated Olive Branch 42-36, Thursday, February 14, for the chance to play Horn Lake Friday night. 

November 30, the Lady Tigers took a nail-biter from Horn Lake, 47-46. Horn Lake got revenge a little later in the season, December 11, and handed the Lady Tigers their one and only district loss, 50-47. The Lady Tigers won the 2001 district championship 50-46 over the Lady Eagles.

Tigers open baseball season 1-1

GRENADA – The South Panola baseball team kicked off the season with a 1-1 record from the Grenada tournament, Saturday, February 16.

The Tigers lost to Grenada 4-1 in the first game, but pulled out a win over Independence 7-6 in the second game.  For the complete story, see page B1 in the 2/19 edition of The Panolian.

JP Hudson general meeting set
J.P. Hudson will hold a general meeting for the membership Monday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the First Security Bank second floor training room. 
 
North Half Champs: Lady Green Waves

COLUMBUS – The North Delta Lady Green Wave claimed the North Half championship by sweeping opponents last weekend. 

After stumping Greenville Christian last week, the North Delta Lady Green Wave defeated the Heritage Lady Patriots 42-28, Friday, September 15, for a chance to play for the championship Saturday, February 16.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Green Wave defeated the Indianola Lady Colonels 47-31 in the championship game.  For the complete story, see page B1 in the 2/19 edition of The Panolian.


Spring soccer offered 
The City of Batesville Parks and Recreation department will hold registration for a spring soccer program, Tuesday, February 26, between 5 and 5:30 PM at Trussell Park.

The soccer program is open to boys and girls ages six to 12. The season will run through April 4.

Any adult who would like to help with this program should come to the registration meeting or contact Coach Ronald McMinn at 563-7611. 


JP Hudson signup set
The J.P. Hudson Park board of directors announces the sign up dates for the 2002 season.

Registration for this year’s teams will be held Saturday, March 2, and March 9, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Sign up will be held in the First Security Bank’s second floor training room.

There is a $90 registration fee for one child, and $50 for each additional child.

A softball camp with Coach K will be held in March. Interested parties should sign up by February 23. Call Lisa Heafner for more information at 563-5382.
