Staff Report
Friends of Johnathan and Shea Garner have organized a fundraiser to assist the family with medical expenses while their daughter undergoes treatment for a malignant brain tumor.
Caitlyn Shea Garner, 11, was diagnosed with cancer this summer when she began to lose sight in her right eye. She now has almost no vision in that eye, and has 20/70 in her left eye.
The child will have chemotherapy treatments until January when surgeons will operate to remove the tumor. Doctors said her regimen will also require radiation treatments after the surgery.
She is expected to be at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis until February.
The funds will be raised with a 50/50 raffle opportunity. Tickets will be given for $20 donations, and 300 will be sold. The winner will be drawn and announced Nov. 16 during the annual Civitan Club’s Radio Day.
The winning ticket will entitle the holder to 50 percent of the ticket sales, with the other half going to the Garners.
Tickets are available at First Security Bank, Farm Bureau, Batesville Pawn Shop, Legacy Auto, Total Comfort Heat & Air, or by calling Bubba Alewine at 662-578-1109.
