NP holds public hearing for budget

North Panola School District revealed its proposed budget for 2020 in a public hearing Monday night.
The school district expects revenues of $16,736,454.28 with expenditures of $17,191,454.28 for an overage of $455,000.
Accountant Lavette Upshaw updated the board members and the public in a public hearing held before the regular board meeting and laid out how the overage will be rectified.
The district will use money from the district fund of $250,000 and the brick-by-brick donations of $205,000. Revenue sources include local contributions of 23.63 percent or $4,001,919; state contributions 48.47 percent or $8,209,819.41; federal contributions 26.72 percent or $,524,715.87; and other sources 1.18 percent or $199,270.79.
Some expenditures include a full time mechanic for the bus shop at $48,500 and an additional bus driver for Crenshaw consolidation $21,500.
The athletics budget is $182,500 which includes funds for an indoor football practice facility.
The alternative school budget is $192,000 for Ombudsman.
Regular meeting
Besides Superintendent Cedric Richardson’s announcement about demolishing the old Sardis High School, there were not any big issues taken up at the board meeting except approval of the 2019-2020 budget.
The claims docket for district maintenance, special eduction, federal programs and others was $187,334.25. The school food service dock was $132,196.32.
The board agreed to accept First Security Bank as the district’s bank depository for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscal years.
Geeta Malhotra was approved for a non-renewable one-year license for a 7-12 science endorsement.
Tia McKinney-Burgess was also approved for a special non-renewable license.
The North Panola achievement academy/Ombudsman graduation ceremony will be Monday, July 1 at 6 p.m. in the North Panola High School auditorium.
The next regular board meeting will be Tuesday, July 23 at 6 p.m.
