The National Day of Prayer dates to 1952 with President Harry Truman and even with President Abraham Lincoln who called for a National Day of Prayer. Groups, large and small, have gathered across the nation in recent years for the public prayers with the goal of improving the state of the country spiritually.

Other events are scheduled across North Mississippi for the day, including at Gabbert Park in Senatobia from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Batesville bible teacher Marni McKenzie leading prayers there.
