The Panola County Democrat Executive Committee will meet March 11, at the Sardis Courthouse at 6 p.m. All Panola County candidates, running for an office in the Panola Democrat primary election, are required to be present for certification at 7 p.m. Contact person is Lourine Robinson 934-1847.

March 13-14

Panola  County  Extension  Service will conduct two Private Applicator Certification Trainings in Batesville. The first one is scheduled for: Wednesday, March 13 at 10 a.m. The second  one will be held on Thursday, March 14 at 6 p.m. Both trainings will be held at the Panola County Extension Service Office on Eureka St. Training is required by the Mississippi State  Plant  Board  to purchase Restricted Use Pesticides. Cost of the training is $20. Call the Extension Office with questions at 563-6260.

March 14

Hiking Mississippi with Dr. John Giesemann, Retired Professor, Extension Center for Technology Outreach Quick Bite will be held noon to 1 p.m. There are more good hiking trails in Mississippi than you probably think. Find out some of the best trails in our state near you. Contact your county office to participate via interactive video 563-6260.

March 14-16

The 10th annual Fit Camp 2019 returns March 14-16 (Thurs. – Sat.) from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  and from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory on Keating Dr. The 5k starts at 9 a.m. on the 16th. Everyone is invited and encouraged to take part.

March 20

A Veterans Day of Awareness and Information Session will be held Wednesday, March 20, at First Security Bank Trust Department. Presenter is Dr. C.J. Tucker, State of MS Certified CVSO, NACVSO Certified, US Department of Veterans Affairs Certified. Individual Sessions are 1 to 4 p.m. (call for an appointment 662-563-9311 Ext 1130). The General Session is 5:30 p.m. Program is FREE and open to the public. Light refreshments provided.

Panola County Mississippi Valley State Alumni Chapter will hold HBCU College Fair 2019 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Batesville Public Library. AARP Driver’s Safety Class will be Tuesday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the First Security Bank Training Room, Main Bank. Cost is $15 for AARP Members  and $20 non-members. Must attend the full four hour session to secure certificate. Two copies of certificates will be provided upon completion of class. Completion of this class will likely decrease your insurance rates. May 3&4

A spring Yard Sale in support of veterans in the Batesville area will be held at the VFW building on Highway 51 S. Please clean out closets and attics and bring the items to the VFW to help this worthy cause. For assistance getting items to the sale, or for more information, call Sandi at 372-0583.

June 8

The second Panola County Juneteenth will be held Saturday, June 8, at noon on Main Street in Sardis. If you would like to be a vendor, email panolacountyjuneteeth@gmail.com.

Celebrate Recovery With Jesus will meet each Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at Victory Independent Baptist Church on Hwy. 51S, two-and-a-half miles south of Batesville on the right. Bring all your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Call 209-7773 for more information.

The South Panola Class of 1979 is planning its 40th year reunion

for Oct. 19. Contact 934-7281 or 703-0171 for more information or to help in the planning. All persons with connections to this class are urged to call. The reunion date is the day after the South Panola High School homecoming game in the fall.

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.

The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.

Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m

Fridays

Al-Anon support group for family and friends of alcoholics will meet at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Saturdays

Every third Saturday of the moth, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building on Tiger Drive.
