The South Panola Middle School fastpitch softball team shut out Oxford 15-0 in the Lady Tigers’  home opener Monday afternoon.

The cold front that moved through the area this week had game time temperature around 30 degrees. The teams were originally scheduled to play two games, but with the cold weather the schedule was cut back to one.

Jolie Avery and Alyssa Talley carried the weight on the mound, allowing two hits in the three innings. They struck out one batter each.

On offense, the Lady Tigers were tough scoring the maximum five runs per inning allowed. They only had two outs in each of the first and second inning and none in the third when the 15th run was scored and the game called.

Lauren Renfroe hit a bases-clearing three RBI triple in the first inning driving home Ainsley Herron who tripled and Sara Hanson and Avery, who had reached on a HBP and a walk.

Abby White scored the fifth run of the inning on a Talley ground out to the pitcher for the 5-0 lead. The second inning went much of the same way as the Lady Tigers batted through the order. Tristen Berryhill singled, Hanson doubled, and several drew walks as SP put five more runs on the board.

They kept the bats hot in the third, scoring their last five runs on several hits, walks, errors, and wild pitches in the third.

The Middle School was scheduled to play a doubleheader Thursday at Lafayette and will play Saturday at noon in the Battle in Batesville on Field 1 against New Albany. They return to action after Spring Break in a doubleheader at Oxford, Monday, March 18 at 5 and 6 p.m.
