Green Wave swept at Winona Christian

The North Delta Green Wave opened up its 2019 baseball season Thursday with a doubleheader loss at Winona Christian.

Lige Simmerman belted a fifth inning solo home and added a single while scoring three runs in the opening game as Winona came away with a 7-5 victory.

Luke Noah added a pair of singles and a run. Eli Robb and Zack Dugger produced a single each.

Hunter Houston got the starting nod on the hill for North Delta and struck out six batters in three innings of work while giving up four runs on two hits.

Dugger followed with three runs allowed with two strikeouts in one inning of relief.

The Stars used a seven-run fifth inning to complete the sweep 12-3 in the nightcap. Robb collected two singles for North Delta while Simmerman and Hunter Hudson added singles.

North Delta used five pitchers in the game as Noah, Robb, Hayden Nelson, Brandon Henson and Tyler Hall saw time on the bump.

The Green Wave was scheduled to host Marshall Academy in their home opener Monday, but that game was moved to Marshall Academy.

North Delta’s JV squad, weather permitting, travels to Potts Camp today to take on Strayhorn and the host team Potts Camp
