Tigers to Water Valley

While basketball heads into its post-season, local teams will hit the diamond this weekend for the official start of baseball and softball season.

The North Panola Cougars, under the direction of second-year head coach Dewayne Nichols, opens their 2019 baseball campaign tomorrow at Coahoma County High School.

The junior varsity will start at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. first pitch for the varsity team. The Cougars first home game will be Feb. 28  against Strayhorn at the American Legion Field in Batesville.

The South Panola Lady Tiger softball team travels to the Lake Cormorant jamboree where they will take on St. Benedict at 2 p.m and New Albany at 5 p.m.

Batesville Junior High’s Tiger baseball squad will visit Lafayette tomorrow for the Commodore jamboree. Batesville squares off against the host team at noon then will take on Oxford at 3 p.m

North Delta opened its season yesterday at Winona Christian. The Green Waves home opener is scheduled for Monday at 4 and 6 p.m against Marshall Academy.

The South Panola baseball Tigers travel to Water Valley tomorrow where they will take on Lafayette County at 2 p.m. and Grenada at 3:30 p.m.

South Panola hosts Senatobia Tuesday at 6:30 p.m in its home-opener.
