The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will sponsor a food and sock drive to help the needy of Panola County. They are asking all civic, community, school organizations and churches to donate to this cause. This is part of the sorority’s MLK day of service. All donations can be dropped off at the AKA table on Monday, Jan. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Batesville Intermediate School auditorium. The Mobile Food Pantry will have food distribution on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from noon to 2 p.m. at Cistern Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Como.

The Como Library will host How Does it Work? at 4 p.m. The First Regional Library Tech Team will take a computer apart and show you how all the parts work together! For kids 2nd grade and up.

Panola County Extension Service reminds producers that there are two dates to renew or acquire Private Applicators Certification Training (PAT) licenses for persons who need to purchase Restricted Use Pesticides for their ag operations. Both meetings will be held at the Extension Office at 245 Eureka, Batesville. Training sessions will be Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 28&29 at 10 a.m. each day. Cost is $20. South Panola Parent Center will hold the workshop, “Understanding and Redirecting Misbehavior” Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Presenter is Dameon Cunningham, BSW, Field Educator, Family Resource Center of North MS in Como. Registration for baseball and softball for the spring at J.P. Hudson Park will be consecutive Saturdays, Feb. 2 & 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the TVEPA Building. Cost is $110 for first child and $75 for additional signups.

Class Reunion Planning Time! It has been nearly 50 years for the Patton Lane High School Class of 1969, and we are starting to plan for our Class Reunion in September 2019. We are looking for each Classmate to help with the planning. Please call or text Lottie Frison

Feb. 15
Pre-K registration for Batesville Elementary School will be held Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the two-story red brick building on the BES campus at 110 College St. Children must be four years old on, or before, Sept. 1, 2019, to register. School officials said parents/guardians should bring the following items: certified birth cerfiticate, immunization Form 121, Social Security card, two proofs of 911 address, proof of child’s health insurance, and proof of family income for the year 2018 (tax return or W-2 form).

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.
The American Legion meets the third Tuesday of every month at the VFW at 5:30 p.m.
The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.
Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.
Thursdays
Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m
Fridays
Al-Anon support group for family and friends of alcoholics will meet at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
