The regular happenings of a normal school day were disrupted on Tiger Drive Wednesday afternoon when a medical transport helicopter was landed near Batesville Junior High School.
A medical emergency involving a substitute teacher happened at the school and the helicopter arrived at 1:25 p.m., according to a statement posted on the South Panola School District’s website and social medial outlets. The patient was not stable enough to be transported by helicopter, and was taken to Panola Medical Center and later flown to Memphis.
A report from a family member said the teacher remains in critical condition in a Memphis hospital.
Several ambulances, police and sheriff cars, and other emergency responders descended on the campus just after 1 p.m. School officials worked quickly to post information for alarmed parents and others in the community.
